We had stayed 3 days from 13th May to 15th May. It was worth visting resort in Darjeeling and well maintained by Mr. Norbu and his family. It is not much crowded. When we are there only 4 rooms were there. The hotel staffs are very caring. We had a good view Kanchen junga mountain from the hotel lounge. Darjeeling is not good as it was totally spoilt due to much crowd, very narrow road and too much vehicle inside the city. It is worth staying in this resort, in case if some one wanted not to be in crowded place / hotel!

Room Tip: Take the room in the first floor as the lounge is nearer and you can relaz over there and read books...

Our first impression of Dekeling Resort was that of a British Palace! The view of the valley is fantastic! However, the overall experience was just about average. I will list a couple of main reasons (Some are in control of the resort authorities and some are not):
1. With due to respect to the old couple living there to help the tourists, I would like to mention that they were short of our expectations. e.g. they encouraged us to eat out and not try food over there, they insisted that we should have only bread-butter-jam as the breakfast. They may not be lazy but their age is not helping them to be enthusiastic.
2. Power cuts - We spent two nights there and on both nights and till 11.00 am following morning there was no power! This is a shame! We could not get hot water for bathing and there was no water in the toilets as well.

Let me start by saying that Darjeeling is a filthy and overcrowded town. It had traffic jams that were certainly worse than Bangalore! We stopped here for 2 nights en route to Sikkim and wish we had avoided the town.

The hotel is a short 15 min walk from the mall, but the last 200 meters to the resort is very very steep. Some of the taxi drivers refused to drive on the same. Old / small children may not be able to walk this last stretch to the resort.

The resort is a small bungalow with 5-6 suites (bedroom and lounge). The place is clean and has nice views.

The owner of the property is Mr Norbu, who I interacted with during the reservation process, and we somehow believed that this would be more like a bed and breakfast - managed by Mr Norbu. However the place is actually maintained by one lady, and the level of service depends entirely on her mood / health. The food and service levels were OK on the first day. I believe she was not well on the 2nd day of our stay, and the service level fell dramatically. We were served only toast and butter on the last day for breakfast (as compared to a much more reasonable spread on the previous day).

Another incident which put us off was as follows: we reached the resort at 9 pm in heavy rain and hailstorm. It was FREEZING and there was no electricity and hence the heaters were not on. However the staff told us that we were only entitled to one fire per suite and we would be charged for the 2nd fire! I found the attitude very "transactional". The resort does not have any accounts person - so we were asked to go and settle our bill the day before departure at Dekeling Hotel in the mall!!

All in all, despite the pleasant views and comfortable rooms, we left with a tinge of disappointment with the place.

We had booked this hotel based on the website content. When we reached Darjeeling by taxi, this hotel confused with Dekeling hotel which is on the mall road. We had a tough time searching the place as no taxi driver knew the place. Finally we found the place and the taxis refused to drop us till the hotel reception as the approach road was very steep. We had to hire a coolie to pick up our luggage and drop till hotel. The place is nice but not equipped as a hotel. More of a homestay. The room was very cosy with fire place etc. Charming raj style. But if you come here with a typical expectation of a city center hotel then wont be of any use. Their other hotel on the mall road would be much better (we didnt see the rooms there but the location was much better) This hotel is far away from mall road. Also not equipped with room service, telephone etc. The view of Kanchanjunga in the morning is fantastic.

Beware of Dekeling Resort & Hotels. They did good search engine optimization. So whenever anyone search hotels in Darjeeling it comes in search list. We also get trapped by the same way.We booked the hotel online booking by transferring Rs 3000/- on a/c of by NEFT as per web site instruction on 2nd April 2012.

The name Dekeling Resort and it web content has been nicely done so that people will be attracted. It is a old british house converted make money out of it.
We need to ask multiple places to locate the resort. It is minimum 20-25 minutes walking up from then main mall road / chowrasta. Even entry of the resort is very steep no proper landing has been done.We need to push the car from back to reach this resort. When we checked in 1st impression was okay.As rooms are big and we get 1 bedroom and 1 sitting room. But there is no room service, no intercom or telephone system., One has to look for the service person by walking down in entry room or kitchen every time. Only 1 aged person is there to service. One has to make STD calls to locate him. As soon as you entered person alarm you not use water more. Most of the time power is out.So even they have LCD TV in the room but you cannot watch it as generator connection not support cable tv.Room heater doesnt work by generator..So one has be prepared to be chilled of cold waves.
When we checked in at 1 PM and after some time we asked for lunch, His reply is people go out for food , body language is as if we made mistake of asking for food. Finally we need to compromise and asked for gravy noodles with egg. When we tasted it was extremely bad. As we have no choice we had to manage. As it was raining so we didnt have any choice, When we asked for milk the reply is he didnt have milk for kid. When we go out at evening bring one milk packet he will warm and will serve.
Finally I had to call Mr Norbu owner sits at other place then only he arranged for milk. We decided that time it self to check out next morning.,
So inspite of heavy rain I go out and located another decent hotel in heart of the city and much better service and infrastructure and decided to move out next day.

But when I came back I found fire has bin lit up in one room. After 3 hrs felt cold air is coming inside as all windows are old stile and air passes from the same inside. We have been informed that Rs 250/- needs to be paid extra to use fire to warm the room.
Room rent is 3600+250+15% serv tax = 4428/- per day and service and facility wise it should be maximum 1000-1500/- so beware of this cheating. LCD TV is in room but of no use. Room heater looks old of also of no use at most of the time power is not available and generator doesnt support. At 10:30pm the room will be completely backout as generator will be switched off and power will only resume next day 7:30 AM.

When next day morning we informed hotel owner Mr Dorbu to check out. We have been forced to pay for 2 days inspite of staying only 1 day i.e 3rd April (check in 1 PM 3rd check out 9.50 AM on 4th Morning not 24 days).
They have charged 6 pc i.e 3 plate of bread toast Rs 135+12.5% vat +15% service charges. Non eatable Veg Chowmin (90+12.5%+15%). each plate.

Finally Norbu forced raised bill of 10,000+ for 1 day stay by showing 2 days stay 1 day food.
I strongly recommend to beware of Mr Norbu and his hotels.
I found in vistor's book mostly foreigners only checked in rarely 1 or 2 indians like me by mistake checked in. As the local taxi drivers never know that this old house has been converted and name Resort .

Room Tip: For Darjeeling best location with very good veg food and service stay at HOTEL SUNFLOWER. Very good...

The Dekeling Resort is associated with the Dekeling Hotel which is located just off of the South end of the Mall in Darjeeling. The Resort is about a 10-15 minute walk South and up the hillside from there. We stayed at the Resort and enjoyed it quite a bit. The staff is small with just the owner/manager, the cook, and a boy who helps out, but they are friendly and eager to assist with whatever is needed. They handle everything from the cooking to the cleaning to the morning tea (just tell them what time you want it and they deliver, better than in in-room coffee maker!) to coordinating for cars or tours. There are only four rooms at the resort, and all of them are very spacious suites with incredible ambiance. Our only complaints were that the bed was a bit hard and the room was cold in the mornings. Cold because power goes out often in Darjeeling and the hotel's generator does not power the space heater that is provided. The views are extraordinary, especially from the nice library/study that is available for all guests. Breakfast was basic but good, and dinner is cooked to order off of a surprisingly large menu. Everything we ordered for dinner was delicious. We arrived and departed by car, but everything else we did on foot, which can be a challenge from this location if you do not enjoy hiking. I recommend you have a car ready if you are mobility challenged. Wifi is not available at the resort, but it is at the hotel for free in the lobby or in the common area one floor above the lobby. Since we were in the area of the hotel every day it was no problem to drop in and surf. And while not specifically about the hotel, not miss the zoo.

Room Tip: Best room is top floor mountain view, simply for the view.
