“Good option in Darjeeling”

This is a lovely hotel, run by a very friendly Tibetan family. The interior is Alpine and in the evening they light a stove in the sitting around area. Good wifi and good location.
It would be perfect but: they charge quite a lot extra for breakfast, the rooms are cold in winter and it's at the top of a very long flight of stairs.

We spent two nights at the Dekeling in January. It was very cold in Darjeeling at the time, but unlike some hotels we stayed in the rooms were warm, with good blankets, the option of an extra electric fire and piping hot water round the clock. The family and staff that run the hotel were very friendly and helpful and assisted us in getting tickets on the Darjeeling Himalayan railway when another much pricier hotel could not.

We enjoyed the breakfasts and the cosy fire in the main lounge. The hotel is perfectly located to explore Darjeeling on foot as it is just off the chowrasta and all the main sites are within reasonable walking distance.

All in all it was an excellent value for money stay and we would definitely come back if we are in Darjeeling again.

Nice hotel and very helpful staff. Great and cosy common drawing room with fire, nice to read a book and perhaps chat to fellow travellers. The rooms are quite cold in winter time but the view is awesome-make sure you ask for extra blankets from the reception. The location of the hotel is great, nice and easy to walk all around. The best momo's in town are just a short walk away, you can find them in Penang's.
Great location too, just below the hotel there are jeeps which you can arrange to take to Tiger Hill for the sunrise-just wake up early enough and prepare to haggle!
What i didn't like is the fact that breakfast is extra, but nobody tells you that, you are just directed to breakfast room and then given the choice of different dishes, without knowing how much they are or that one has to pay in the first place-we got cold cheese toast which we returned twice-very disappointing. You are much better off across the road in Keventer's, where you can sit on the top of the terrace and enjoy the great view whilst munching on fabulous cheese omelette and having delicious Darjeeling tea.

Moved to this hotel as prior hotel was just too cold. They have a log burner in the lounge area and hot water bottles although a negative was you had to pay extra for a heater for your room. Good location in town, friendly staff and decent breakfast. The rooms vary so worth having a look at a couple and free but variable WIFI is available.

Mr. and Mrs. Norbu have created a laidback, welcoming atmosphere that will appeal to the many different cultures of their clientele. The simple breakfast is held in a cozy common room which encourages travellers to get to know their fellow travellers. The staff are friendly and helpful without being overbearing. We had one of the doubles in front which had a marvelous view of Mt. Khangchengdzonga and the surrounding valley. The down side to that location was the numerous dog fights that broke out on in the square at night, but we were willing to overlook that issue. The hotel has good rooms in the "new" wing in back which are quieter. We used room service a few times and were always happy with the service. Check out was efficient and we were touched by Mrs. Norbu presenting us with white scarves, a Tibetan buddhist tradition to thank us and wish us well on our journey. The "folksy" ambiance of this hotel is something we have missed at the several hotels we've visited in our 12 weeks in India. I must say a word on the Dekeling's restaurant, Dekevas, which is downstairs. The Tibetan dishes we had there have been the best we've experienced in India and Nepal. Excellent value. I guess the stairs would be my last comment. There are 67 of them from the street up to reception. You're at a high altitude here, so take your time, you will certainly enjoy the view at the top.

We stopped at this hotel for four nights and we really couldn't fault it. The room was all wood with a huge TV which we didn't use! The lounge area was heated by a wood stove which was hot hot. The staff just couldn't do enough for us and we were sorry to say goodbye.

TIP try the Kunga resaurent below the hotel for real tibetian comfort food.

Our group stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The food and service was wonderful and the hotel had fantastic views. It is located next to the open market so shopping is convenient. The down side is you need to be relativey fit because you have to climb 2 flight of stairs to get to the hotel. It is a good way to keep fit! We stayed in the old and new wing. The rooms in the old wing (rooms 100+ and 110+) are a bit run down but you get fantastic views. The new wing (rooms 200+) are nice but there is no view.
