Owner description: The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling, overlooking the fertile Himalayan foothills. Established in 1854, its history is closely entwined with the origins and cultivation of Darjeeling tea. This garden, located in the town of Darjeeling, is home to spectacularly lush fields, endowed with a natural, breath taking charm. At Happy Valley respect for nature is expressed through the organic and bio-dynamic method of farming. Happy Valley invites you to immerse yourself in the culture, history and tradition of the region by witnessing the process by which fresh tea leaves are withered, rolled, fermented, dried, sorted and graded to produce a variety of teas; the traditional black tea, green tea and the exquisite speciality teas. A guided tour of the Happy Valley tea factory offers visitors a glimpse of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea. The tea tasting session, curated for first-timers, is conducted at the end of the tour, where one can discover the legendary flavour of Happy Valley organic Darjeeling teas. Happy Valley teas are available in retail packs at the factory boutique for sale.

See the plantation, see the processing plant, taste and buy the tea whilst listening to great tales from the guide.

They say all their tea goes to Harrods !

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your valuable feedback.

We stand corrected that only part of the Happy Valley tea is sold at Harrods and majority of the Happy Valley tea is exported to continental Europe.

Apologies for any miscommunication in this regard during the tour

We constantly strive to improve and provide our best service to our esteemed guests

Wish you a pleasant day
Best Regards
Happy Valley Management team

“For more than just it's location”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

Happy Valley Tea Estate was a great place to visit and to experience a bit of the 'Darjeeling' which you stereotypically think of..ie. tea! The tour guide, Mukund, is VERY informative and makes it not only an educational but also an entertaining tour. Not only this, but the tea is actually really yummy. Mukund put us under no pressure to buy the tea (even though the tour is free), but everyone in our tour group still bought quite a bit! It is very close to the tourist strip in town so no need to hire transport to get there, however, it should not be that this estate is the closest to the tourist strip which is the drawcard, rather that it is just a great estate, with a great tour and of course great tea.

It was well worth to visiting, it was very nice to walk through the Valley Tea and also the guide-boy was very understanding and kind with us to let us know how the process of the manufacturing of the tea was. There is also a very nice place to get tea and the taste is amazing.

“Absolute Delight! ”
Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

Today we visited this estate as we are currently staying in Darjeeling. We arrived and wandered into the building where the friendly and knowledgeable manager greeted us warmly and apologised that we had actually come during the down season. Not to worry though, as what followed was a fun and unique experience as my friend and I were able to frolic through the estate at leisure, hiking around the plantation and enjoying the beauty and scenic location. Once we had exhausted ourselves of tea shrubs and mountain views we ambled back inside whereupon the manager took us through the factory and despite not running at this present time, stepped us through production with no leaf (pardon the pun) left unturned. We were then treated to a tasting of black and green teas with lovely company. I learned so much and had a great time. Highly recommended for lovers of tea and fresh mountain air alike!
