A more peaceful way to enjoy the sunrise on Khangchendzonga is an early morning walk toward Bhutia Busty Gompa, a pretty monastery with superb views of the mountains. This was a lovely, meditative way to appreciate the beauty and majesty of these mountains. The early morning jeep procession is a raucous circus.

headed to Tiger Hill at 0400 and arrived, sat in the special lounge area and the sunrise was just magnificent. We had the most incredible view

Viewing the mighty and impressive Himalayan mountains for the first time was one of the most memorable experiences in our Darjeeling trip. The snow-white peaks exude so much majesty and strength. Their reassuring presence in the distance is so soothing- it is really something to experience!

You can get views of the Kangchenjunga mountain from the following places: 1) From Tiger Hill at sunrise (really awesome on clear days) 2) Using the telescopes in the Batasia Loop War Memorial 3) Using the telescopes in the Happy Valley Tea Estate 4) From the Ropeway (amazing views) 5) Some tall buildings in Darjeeling (Hotel Lunar, Hotel 717 and am sure, some others too).

While we missed the reddish golden hue of the Kangchenjunga range on our Tiger Hill sunrise visit due to cloud cover, we could see it at sunrise from our hotel room the next two days- simply breathtaking! It is best to get up early to see the mountains, as on all the days of our stay, clouds engulfed the mountain around 11 am or earlier and it remained hidden for the rest of the day.

We were told that from Sandakphu, the best view of the mountain is possible. But the drive to Maneybhanjang from Darjeeling and a tedious day long trek to Sandakphu made it a trip for another time! Just pick your lookout point and spend some time looking at these majestic mountains!

Don't bother to fight the Tiger Hill crowd in hopes of a meager glance of Everest. Just relax and enjoy the beauty of Kanchenjunga.
