Owner description: A spectacular narrow gauge steam railway is still operational.

If you are in Darjeeling, than take a ride on the toy train, just because it is a mystic train.... But it was far from my favourite things to do in Darjeeling.

You can not miss going on the train, even if it is for a couple of stops. It is such a part of the region and fun to ride and be with the local folks on the train an when it makes it stops.

Although it is described as a 'don't miss' experience, the toy train was pretty average all round - and there was no need for it to be a 2 hour trip at all. We could only get onto the 4pm trip which meant it got dark half way through but the views are the same as you get in the jeep coming into Darjeeling anyway. It felt like any other train journey just slower, and the toilet in the carriage smelt horrendous. You'd be better off just taking pictures of the train with the view in the background rather than riding it

This is a remarkable engineering feat and just the ride from Darjeeling to Ghum is worthwhile. A very relaxing way to spend a few hours. Visit the small museum above Ghum station. I truly hope that this World Heritage site can be maintained.

We took the "joy ride". One hour each way from Darjeeling to Ghum station. The train is a curiosity and in ruins, but you don't need to get on it to see it. Nothing to see on the way if you did it by car on your way in anyway.
