Had booked First Class seats and until the last moment had no clue which compartment to enter. No signs or charts pasted on the trains to indicate First Class compartments. Ridiculously managed. First class compartments did not exactly sparkle..........When will we learn???????

The ride by itself was good for two hours with stops at Batasia Loop and Ghoom Museum thrown in.

As the name itself, it's certainly a joy ride especially the ride along the batasia loop. You can take a journey from Darjeeling railway station to ghum and back. Ghum is the highest railway station in the country and second highest in the world at around 7400 feet. Although diesel engines are used for joyrides, you can also have a look at the steam engines at the station. There are several other routes as well. Joyride takes around 2 hours and is the shortest trip available. Considering its legacy and world heritage status, one should not miss toy train in darjeeling. Its a journey worth remembering.

Even if I can not call it as the best Toy train ride when compared to the Toy train ride of the Nilagiri mountain railways connecting ooty in Tamilnadu, I would say that I enjoyed this journey when compared to the road ride. It is a slow moving train which gave me oppurtunities to take scenic photographs and videos which is myfavourite pastime when I travel. Even though it is travelling along the road, there are several locations showing the breath taking views of the mountains and valleys. The only short coming I felt was that the conventional steam loco was not hauling the train and instead a diesel loco was used on the day when I travelled. But the steam locos are there. The first class coach is very comfortable which is not very expensive. I liked the train for the heritage part of it.
