Glenburn Tea Estate

Certificate of Excellence

High atop a pinacle, the colonial-style bungalows and endless carpet of tea bushes is a magical location; but the warmth of the welcome and informality make this a paradise. Do not visit if you want endless activities, easy transport, swanky service or show-off food. Instead, the thoughtful staff, communal dinners (with fresh, locally grown ingredients and dishes) and spacious antique-filled suites set the tone for a wonderfully relaxing vacation. Plenty of memorable walks for all abilities, magnificent views across mist-filled valleys to the Himalayas and the town of Darjeeling. A paradise without equal.

We stayed at Glenburn for about 4 nights and fell so sorry to leave the clouds and the green fields decorated in the background by the Himalaya mountain range. A place on Planet Earth to be, to enjoy, to reflect, to dialogue, to contemplate, to meditate. Enjoy the early morning walks in the clouds. Enjoy the sounds of the surrounding. Enjoy the flavors of spices and cuisine of the Himalayas.

I was there for a technical survey on getting the Glen Burn Tea Estate & Boutique Hotel towards green energy. No matter how tired we were during the long field surveys, the long walks and the long meetings, we would be taken care of by the excellent staff. They can organize a 7-star picknick anywhere with a big smile on their face. Happy people, skillful in their actions. All supervised gently and with care by the general manager and his hospitality partner and staff.

Learning about tea will increase your sense of appreciation for Mother Nature and the skilled people doing their work with full dedication.

You won't miss your TV or Internet a single day or second. You won't desire for shopping malls. You won't desire for crowded streets. Just go and experience India in another way.

Room Tip: Just accept what you get. Its all just GREAT!

My husband and I stayed at Glenburn early in August. despite being forewarned by friends that the monsoon was the worst period to travel to India we went ahead and have to say that we enjoyed an amazing stay. Being the low season, we were the only ones in the hotel, which was amazing, making everything extra peaceful and relaxing! We had a beautiful room in the newest part of the hotel that overlooked the Himalaya mountain range. It was a real pleasure to wake up every morning to a delicious assortment of tea, coffee and cookies and sit down in front of the veranda, sip our tea and look at the beautiful scenery. Service was impeccable. As the hotel is staffed by people from the local community you could really feel there was pride in their service, a desire to show they are really good hosts and was to share with everyone the riches this area has to offer. This not only made us feel welcome but allowed us to relax knowing we were in the best hands possible. The estate manager and his lovely wife were extremely generous with their time, joining us every day for dinner. Both my husband and I found this really interesting as they were always more than ready to answer our questions and also showed genuine interest in our plans. The excursions were executed with such precision and attention to detail that we were really blow away, from making sure cold towels were always available to help us cool down to having the guides ready at hand with everything from cold water to freshly squeezed lemon juice! The local guides were well informed about flora and fauna and during one of our treks I got a crash course into local herbolary which was great. Food was amazing! I wish we could have stayed more time, having only stayed 2 full days, which was a shame. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for adventure, relaxation, something exotic, amazing service, food, real warmth and an unforgettable holiday!

I stayed with Glenburn on my last trip to Darjeeling-Kalimpong-Gangtok and was disappointed to say the least.
The booking was made through my tour operator who deals with travel for our company in Bangalore who had particularly asked for a airport pick up. The car which seemed as though the previous passenger vomited all over the side of the car showed up half an hour late. The drivers excuse was that they had to drop another guest at Silguri! Hardly professional.
On arriving at the beautiful setting, the staff kept talking in the local language which was rather rude considering that I was waiting to check in after the tiring journey... this place is a fair deal away from Darjeeling. The rooms were musty and my cook at home in Bangalore cooks better home food than what was served cold here.
Needless to ssay, the "We're number 1 so why try harder" attitude has surely set in and this place is on its way down.

We loved this place's tradition and charm. A taste of British India in the clouds with afternoon Darjeeling tea and picnics by the river. A must do for romantics if you like solitude and great service

We rolled up on our Royal Enfields and though a little road-weary, we were warmly greeted. Even though we were unexpected guests, we could not have had a more gentile stay. An absolutely noteworthy experience!

We were there end of March and enjoyed the crisp country air. The service was excellent and the staff polite. My children were safe on the estate and had great fun there. We enjoyed all the excursions and were always in great hands with the guides. The rooms were all decorated in different theme and were very well kept.
