We were booked at a local, once luxurious club but when we went there were aghast at the tattered state in which it was. We asked around for an alternative and were about The Elgin.
It was beautiful in every way! The building is old world colonial but perfectly and painstakingly maintained. The boundary walls ingeniously reveal only the distant mountains and trees and conceal the mess that is Darjeeling town. Our room was bright and lovely. A hot water bottle was placed under the bedclothes every night - a welcome touch! The food was excellent, the tea lounge and the bar spacious, luxurious. The gratuities box at the reception ensured that no embarrassing staff hung around at check out time!More
