We were told this was beautiful and charming and made a booking. But upon reaching the club we were in shock. The place is dilapidated, everything - yes, everything - is either broken, ragged, dirty, messy or under repair. They have some big renovations going on so one hopes it will be restored some day to what is said to have been a great place to stay.

How they are going to get rid of the disastrous view is another matter. The long balconies and verandah once overlooking Kanchenjunga now face a street with a row of hideous Sintex water tanks, yards of ugly hanging cables, a satellite tower, dish tv etc all within 200 feet.

We cancelled our booking quickly and ran away to a hotel.

This place is a real one off and I loved. It is really old fashioned place, slightly disorganised but really friendly. My room was was massive wooden panelled, they have a billiard room and an amazing view of the Himalayas.

If your like posh chain hotels you will probably not like this place as it's quirky, has no lift, wifi and is cold the winter. But I prefer to stay somewhere memorable

Old and atmospheric. Empty due to being poorly signed and well about the pedestrian walkway.
Tables were a bit dusty. menus were filthy and old, but soups came in clean tableware and were hot and very spicy. Excellent prices (e.g. soup 100rp) mains approx 150Rp.
No wifi despite prominent signage promising it !!

This is an old club from colonial era which is now used for a hotel kind of stuff. The rooms are good for the tariff but lack maintenance in totality. The view of Kanchenjunga is awesome from balcony and that makes for other deficiencies.

The club is very old and is located at very a good location. The property is very big but not well maintained. The rooms, staff and service is very awful. The food too is very poor. The rooms are quite large but not properly furnished which gives you a bad feel about the club.

Verdict: Avoid if possible

This is a well located, decent and attractive hotel providing glimpses of Kanchenjunga, eastern Himalayas and Darjeeling town from its verandahs and terraces .Suites are available at reasonable tariff and give feeling of bygone era. Though maintenance is a bit lacking but the location and views of Darjeeling landscapes and mountains compensates for it. Chaurasta Mall, the central place of the town is just at a 5 minutes’ walk from here and on the way are a number of restaurants if you prefer eating out. The in house restaurant and bar is also very good and offer verity of food and beverages. Suite rooms are warm and cozy, provided with room heater and geyser. Coal fired fire place can also be enjoyed at an extra cost. The photographs, cannon and other memorabilia displayed prominently resurrect memories of colonial era. A very good place to stay and to enjoy being at the center of the town.

Room Tip: Suite rooms at first floor are good.

great place to stay, great location, view from balcony is awesome, hotel building was constructed more than 100 years ago, once enter into hotel a heritage feeling comes automatically, its a club property, administration maintained by ex- army men. room service is okay. but if someone stay in this hotel then should go out side for breakfast, lunch and dinner, because plenty of good restaurant available just outside of the hotel. The room we stayed was awesome, gave us a feeling of 1960's, if you stay here a must visit place is Glenary's Bakery just a minute walk, have your food and splendid view of the hill.

Room Tip: Try for room no 4 to room no 11
