“Excellent thai food”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

I've been going to this place off and on since it opened about 8 years ago - it's not changed much in that time except it's become a lot dearer and the place really could do with a refresh now.

The food is in the richer style of cooking with plentiful use of coconut milk and spices. The quality is excellent and being in Tamil Nadu they don't tone the spicing down which is good news for this chilli lover.

Excellent starters - good spicy larb gai, chicken in pandanus leaves and some satay. I had an excellent minced chicken with chilli and basil for a main with some pad thai. The pad thai was probably the least sucessful bit - rather heavy and over sauced.

It's not cheap - prices are on the high side and in common with other places in Chennai you need a second mortgage if you want alcohol. That aside, this is a very good restaurant and very reliable.

Reviewed June 8, 2012

If you are looking for authentic Thai food and have a mix of veggie and non-veg group... Lotus is the place to go.
Try the lotus stem starter.. and the tom yum soup ...If going on the weekends.. make sure you reserve a place there to avoid disappointment.

“Thai Cuisine at its best”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

Definitely yummy dimsums, what a fantastic fried rice. Its just that little extra ingredients they perfect in to make it so truly thai... and of course makes them stand out in the crowd. value for money for sure.

“excellent thai food, good prices, but unfortunately you are slaughtered by taxes and fees, some as high as 58%”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

A very authentic experience, food was very good, coming from someone that is Thai and grew up with a mother that cooked great Thai food (yes, she was Thai). Service was very good, though it was a little issue understanding the wait staffs english. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot, and delicious. Unfortunately, though the prices are fare for the quality of food you get, there are service charges, VAT taxes, and a whopping 58% tax on nondomestic alcohol items. With soft drinks at $4US almost for small 9 oz cans, and alcoholic beverages charged a premium price to begin with, any place charging a 58% tax is absurd. The average beer is only $4-7 (US), which is average for any bar, but the liqour is very expensive, and like I said, tack on a tax of 58% and the average beer is almost $10, which is steep anywhere. Though the food was good, beverages are sky rocket high, you can walk across the street and pay less than a dollar at other places to eat for a soft drink, but $4 (US) for a 9 oz can again is a horrid upcharge. Besides that, the atmosphere is nice, it's a small place with only about ten or twelve tables, and the service is wonderful.

“Different menu, Can say its ' Authentic'”
Reviewed February 24, 2012

I visited Lotus with 5 friends yesterday. I agree that the place is small but very comfy and cozy. Corner table is a good location to sit when you are with friends. Coming to the food part of it, everything we ordered was really tasty.
Must order or try the following dishes
Thai chicken wings : Spicy chicken wings
Roti : For coconut flavour lovers, It has a milk sweetish and coconut taste in it which is suppose to be had with Green curry
Green curry : Its very Authentic and tummy, the consistency is medium and that makes it perfect.
Tom Kha Soup : Spicy coconut based soup with shrimp for seafood lovers
Jungle curry : A mixed veggie curry which is red based , to be ordered with sticky rice..oh My my...
Then, i went there with a set mind to have Phaat Thai and it was very very tasty and also as authentic it could be.
I also liked the selection of sauces they have on table like the pumpkin and tamarind sauce .The serve a bowl of cut carrots and cucumber on the house ( a healthy snack) until u really wait to binge.
Over all I LOVED THE FOOD and left the place without any cribs.

PS: Its 5 star hotel so our bill came to Rs. 1500 per person with a glass of wine.
