i stayed here after booking the rooms on internet. The overall property looks like hospital & not the hotel.
the rooms are very old & require the complete renovation . the curtains looks to be decades old
they are very rigid in timing of there restaurants.
they refused to serve additional items while taking dinner after 10.30. no lawn or some greenery is visible.
parking is right in front of the rooms.

breakfast only from 6.45 to 9.30, No visitors in room, restaurant opens after 7.30 am swimming charges extra, no cleaning when staying, call reception 30 minutes before u vacate, get clean chit from house keeping. use toilets only once (this is exagagration do'nt mind).

But the rules of the house puts you off. More of a Hostel.Cleaniness is miles away, Housekeeping non exisitant. Room service is ok, but clearence after service is memory erased.

The room rates compared to chennai is very high for the service and room offerings.
The only Plus is food, so stay at Savera next door eat here.

A simple hotel in the heart of Chennai, the New Woodlands covers a huge area. The location is the best part of this hotel as it is a short walk from the famous Marina beach and adjoining a lot of eateries and close to the City Centre mall Chennai.
However the odd thing I noticed was that the place was thoroughly confusing. The reception is detached from the rooms and the rooms are divided in various blocks. The car parking is also scattered all over the hotel site and I got the feeling more of a hospital (minus the suffering) than the hotel. The planning seems to have been organic and they seem to have built wherever they wanted.
The service staff is polite though some are confused and our potter had to go back twice to the reception to get the key, and finally found it with the housekeeping staff.
The rooms are very basic in terms of furniture and decor, but well sanitized and clean. However, all modern amenities have been provided like LCD TV, Digital safe, minibar and even a glass shower cubicle.
The room service cannot be much spoken about because we didn't order much, but much to my amusement the water and cold drinks we ordered were delivered in a delivery bag rather than the conventional tray service.
All in all if you are looking to save on the pocket and on a short trip, this is a decent place to be.

I enjoyed staying here and it was comfortable, central, and affordable. As a westerner, I appreciated staying in a traditional Indian hotel. The restaurants served outstanding food and services such as laundry and arranging car service were helpful and reliable. Room staff were very friendly and helpful. Front desk staff were not overly accommodating but professional with some persistence. Internet is very spotty and some rooms have quite a musty smell. I had to go to the lobby for internet. The hot water schedule was not an inconvenience for me. I loved it here and would stay again in Chennai. If you are a business traveler you may want more reliable internet.
