“Must Try!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

Amazed by the restaurant I had requested TripAdvisor to add this restaurant under the name Jr.Kuppanna and wrote a review for it..

http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304556-d3359440-r144708705-Jr_Kuppanna-Chennai_Madras_Tamil_Nadu.html

Just Now saw this new thread under the name Junior Kuppanna. so wanted to update in this also..
Here you go..
What can I say.. Our whole family has become brand ambassadors for the restaurant after having food here. It started with Junior kuppanna in Erode.. We were taken by our family friends when we were in erode and the food was delicious though the ambience there was not that great.. After that we wanted to go there again.. And one day when my husband had dropped in to chennai and had a urgent work to complete at T Nagar and rush back to airport for a flight, He accidentally saw the board of Jr.Kuppanna and was intrigued by it and went to the restaurant.. To his surprise it was the branch of Erode Jr.Kuppanna and he also found that the food was of the same taste and the restaurant excellently maintained than Erode.. Now everytime we go to chennai, It has become a habit for us to have food at Jr.Kuppanna..

Now to the restaurant specifics..

Must tries
Biriyani - how about having biriyani and not feeling heavy.. thats their speciality. Very tasty yet light
Parotta - Very soft and fluffy. U wont feel heavy
Idli - It tastes just like mother's idli.. So soft and fluffy again. Kind of Khushbu Idli
Afternoon thali - Very good again
Pallipalaym Chicken - Very spicy and good. This is trademark dish
If u go in the afternoon they give egg with masala to everyone which is very tasty and is like an appetizer.
Unlike many restaurants in chennai (Who even charge for idli podi oil) these people give a cup of chutney and chicken kormas that is also replenished when its over and not charge extra for it.

Plusses
Ambience - Excellent and well lit. Neat and well maintained
Hospitality - The Bearers are neat and clean and are very hospitable and courteous
Quality - Excellent quality and hygienic..we can see the kitchen and see that the people working have the caps and gloves.
Quantity - Good. Can be little more. But for me it was more than enough. They give the side dishes that come along with the dish like chutney, raitha and korma in unlimited quantity.
Menu - Limited but all are signature dishes each one tastes good

Minuses
Place - It is in a side street that branches out from Usman road. and during crowded times like sundays, you are not getting place to park your car in the street.
Pricing - Little expensive though but the pricing is similar to thindugal thalappaikatti biriyani

“JUNIOR KUPPANNA IN COIMBATORE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

I had visited Junior Kuppana in Ram Nagar,Coimbatore with a business associate and ordered
Chicken Biriyani,Prawns masala. Both were very tasty. The Biriyani especially for South Indian's like us will be a treat just like home made.In Biriyani you have varieties which all of you agree.Hyderabadi, keralite,Mughalai,Andhra and Buhari muslim type all have different taste. This Kuppana Biriyani hails from a place called ERODE IN TAMILNADU very famous for BEDSHEETS
AND LUNGIES.It is a taste of a kind close to DINDIGUL TYPE OF BIRIYANI.After this 2 dishes we ordered plain rice and mixed with chicken and mutton curry, prawn masala, rasam and curd and thus ended our meal and the cost came to Rs.375/-which is quiet normal and fair price for two.Junior Kuppana has opened recently in Chennai,Bengaluru and it is a place not to be missed by food connosures. Thanks GOD BLESS Bhasker Ravi

“Amazing food - clean restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

Tucked away in the middle of T. Nagar this gem is a must for anyone who LOVES Non-vegetarian South India 'meals'.

The biriyani is to die for. The parotta and pallipayalam chicken are mouth watering dishes. The fish fry melts in your mouth! Need I say more!

Vegetarians can have the usual 'meals' which I hear is great as well.

Staff are very courteous.

They don't have an option to reverve a table but if you reach for lunch at 12.30 or so or for dinner before 8 pm it will be quite easy to get a table. Even if there's a line, the max I've waited is 5-10 mins.

Finally, a FULL meal won't cost more than Rs. 500 per head!

“Best Authentic South Indian Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

I totally love this restaurant.... the best place to enjoy true south Indian parotta at Chennai.... all the non-veg dish are great... As I have visited both Erode (Head branch) and Coimbatore branch, I can say that Chennai get's only the 3rd place in taste but surely the best food in Chennai....

Things to try:
Parotta
All Fish item
Cold Payasam

Not at best:
Biryani (Not as good as Erode), all because of Chennai water ;(

Makesure to drop in by their Kitchen, yes they encourage you to visit their open kitchen.... CLEAN>>>>
