“Almost perfectly luxurious”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

A new luxurious property in Mylapore at Adyar Seaface. Very luxurious but the service is not yet joined together, although this new hotel at the end of the Marina Beach is one of the most luxurious hotels of India.

We booked a junior suite and were upgraded to a luxury Suite.

The suite was enormous, with as much floor space as most people’s houses. It was a truly splendid apartment with sea-facing rooms looking out in two directions from the seventh floor. The appointments were, like the style of decoration of the hotel itself, a mixture of everything lavish. The scope of the style of the furnishings seems to be of the utmost high quality. Whether it is to your taste or not, it is extraordinarily well done and consistently carried out. It is an ostentatious mix of large cut-glass mirrors, contemporary art, staggeringly opulent flower arrangements, and a modern take on traditional Indian craft work.

Great play was made of the fact that we had a butler for the suite. He appeared at check-in and check-out. We had problems with the air-conditioning. Nobody had showed us how to adjust it. We had to call up a technician at 2 a.m. to find how to cool the room. The air-con was faulty. He had to take out and change the control board in the air conditioning in the ceiling of the dressing room. Understandable in such a new property. Incidentally, the telephone system seemed unnecessarily complicated and the instructions didn’t help much. We felt somebody (the butler?) should have come to us on one of the following days to check that the problem with the air-con had been solved.

We didn’t find the two formal restaurants especially appealing for meals, though they looked superb.

We used the Lobby Lounge dining areas during our stay. Service was haphazard on both occasions we had dinner there. The food was good but jolly expensive. We thought that it needed one good focused Maitre-d. There were, we thought, rather too many people in black suits working in the restaurant who seemed more concerned to supervise the junior staff, than attend to the diners. We were disappointed that the hotel didn’t offer any of the excellent Indian wines. That is due to Tamil Nadu Government policy not the hotel but it is regrettable. The wines we had on the two occasions we dined there, appeared on the bill at different prices – a difference of some thousand rupees. One bill charged us for the bottle and the other, oddly enough, though exactly the same wine and service, was charged by the glass.

This may seem to be carping criticism of a hotel of such luxurious quality and all the niggles are probably due to its newness. It’s not quite settled in, we thought, and hasn’t yet attained the faultlessly smooth running achieved by the best luxury Indian hotels.

Room Tip: We had wonderful views on two sides of the sea. The immediate outlook of the fishing village may be...

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write such extensive comments about your experience on Trip Advisor.

I was indeed sorry to read that we have not managed to meet or exceed your expectations on this occasion and I sincerely apologize for this. It was unfortunate that you had to experience some maintenance issues and I am sorry that the team did not handled this situation to your satisfaction. I have discussed this with the team and rest assure that we will make all necessary correction in order to avoid this from happening in the future.

I have also taken good note about the service issues you have experienced in Spectra.

I sincerely hope that we will have an opportunity in the near future to welcoming you back, where I am sure we will be able to provide you with a much more positive impression.

This Hotel is the best by far amongst the numerous hotels we have stayed around the world. We stayed here on the 28th ,29th Dec 2013 asa family of four .2 adults and 1 infant and toddler.and must say right from our check in ,Abhishek at the reception made us feel very welcome, the staff there,Roopa ,Priya ,Heera ,Lui .door boy and many more whose names i cannot remember made us feel as If we were at a Palace. We came from London and were in Transit to Singapore Malyasia ,we could spend the rest of our holiday at Leela.
I have nothing to fault about this lovely hotel.Immaculate ambience, friendly staff ,excellent food ,most comfortable bed, pillows ,baby cots and very very professional service !!!! I would say truly 7 star experience ,will definitely stay here again and I have recommended many more friends.I used to be a faithful ITC guest ,but now i would recommend Leela over ITC .Thankyou so muchFOR MAKING OUR STAY PLEASANT AND MEMORABLE.

Room Tip: definitely seafaring.. further the better

This was certainly a lovely hotel, perfect in its lush decor - but - I just I think that fabulous location and view, is let down by the rubbish pile near the homes in the distance. This little sea side village could be made to look really charming with a bit of paint and removal of the rubbish. Surely this is in the hotel's interest - perhaps a bit of assistance in cleaning up the area, that is in direct site of a lot of the rooms in the hotel. There was also an odor in the hotel that was not pleasant and I wondered if it came from outside- there is a watercourse that feeds into the sea. Our stay was for two nights, we used the pool, and the gym and ate in the restaurant. The gym was a bit gloomy. The pool was excellent in pleasant surroundings. We also stayed in the Leela Palace in Delhi and found that experience better than the Chennai hotel. I loved seeing the buffalo in the water, fascinating to watch them.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean facing room.

I also agree about the surroundings and the Leela is making every efforts in the last 2 years to clean up the surroundings but with very little success I am afraid. But our persistence will certainly pay off one day.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back at The Leela Palace Chennai in the very near future.

This is possibly the only hotel with a view of the sea located in the heart of Chennai. Its simply beautiful. Rooms are very elegantly furnished, and provides a great experience.
In fact my daughter and her friends also spent many nights there and the everyone enjoyed the service, the views and mostly how beautiful the property has been the consistent feedback of all.
the breakfast spread is simply huge and you will have serious difficulty in choosing what you want to have.

Room Tip: If you get rooms that face the sea, it will be a totally different experience.

This is by far the best hotel to stay in Chennai particularly if you wish to stay on the beach front. Having said that, there is no access to the beach, since the hotel sits at the mouth of the Adyar River.

We stayed here for two nights.

We had a sea-facing room (highly recommended) on the 7th floor; that offered good views.

The food was fantastic typcial of the Leela. The staff was very friendly and genuinely helpful. They were quite particular in attending to the personal needs of the guests, so common in the high end hotels now a days.

The check-in was quick. The room service prompt and proper.

Room Tip: Take upper floor room. Avoid city side rooms.

After staying 5 nights at Hyatt Regency Chennai we moved to the Leela Palace Chennai to get a glimpse of the sea. Despite the building works next to the Leela Palace that may annoy some visitors, this hotel was a delight from start to finish and as many fellow travellers have noted already, everything is simply amazing here: the service and the incredible & proactive staff, the design, all the wonderful flower arrangements everywhere, the meals etc.etc.

Paid exactly the same price for the Hyatt Regency Chennai as well as for the Leela Palace and had the pleasure of visiting two different worlds really. Both five star, both so different.

Room Tip: All twin-bedded rooms have big balconies.
