Sure the long history and the rich architecture is worth bragging about, but nothing really is done to make this place tourist friendly. Just like most places you will find the infrastructure pretty poor.

This temple has something that can not be defined but experienced. Very good and accessible location with sufficient parking space during day time. There are two approaches and parking is confined to front entrance. There is a big pond in the rear side of the temple and many people do Achman over there. Be sure that you are not wearing socks inside as much of the temple floor is wet and sometimes muddy with the soft clay particles and you have to wash yours feet after coming out. Feel is good and there is good market and eateries around the temple including nice vegetarian food and home made delight served by the local Brahimn families

This is a very old Siva temple in the center of the city (in Mylapore) and visited mainly by city slickers.

When compared to other renowned Siva temples like Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Nellai etc. this is very small in area. Nonetheless,it's very famous due to Sambandar: There was a small girl named Poompavai and she died due to snake bite. His father did all the ceremonies and kept the remains in a small pot. When Sambandar (a child saint) came there to offer his worship many years later, Poompavai's father met Sambandar and submitted what happened to his daughter. Sambandar asked him to bring the mortal remains to the temple and sang Padikam on Kapaleeshwarar and wow Poompavai became alive from the mortal remains. And not as a child when she died; but as a fully developed woman if she were to have lived without the death !

As usual with any Siva temple, the Lord is easily approachable during any time of the day.

One sad thing : The lord's name is spoiled by Tamil Cinema by naming anti-social elements in movies as Kapalee - almost always.
