My favorite temple where Lord Natarajar and His consort Karpagambal bless the devotees. I feel goosebumps on entering the temple that I have been doing for five decades whenever i visit Chennai, India. I get peace of mind visiting the temple and could feel some inner peace

This temple is a delight to visit and enjoy all the carvings on the temple walls, the smaller temple which are open and easy to access even for westerners. There is a wonderful hustle and bustle here as the temple seems to be busy all the time. The area around the temple is full of shops and stands along the street. A short walk away is the Saravana Bhavan Restaurant which has fantastic food and much appreciated a/c.

This marvellous temple full of wonderful sculptures and great architectural marvels located in MYLAPORE in SOUTH CHENNAI is a very great LORD SHIVA TEMPLE. It is said to be nearly three hundred years old. The temple belongs to and is being administered by the HINDU RELIGIOUS BOARD, MINISTRY OF HINDU RELIGIOUS ENDOWMENTS, GOVERNMENT OF TAMILNADU.

If you have time for 1 temple while you are in Chennai and would like to see all the aspects of an ancient temple, this is the ONE. It has nice gopurams (tower) depicting different sculptured characters, it is huge with typical south Indian architecture, it has a tank, and if you go in the evenings typically though not always there are Carnatic music singers exhibiting their talent. Takes about 1 hour or more depending on your interest to cover this temple. If you are in the mood for shopping, there are many clothing, jewellery shops around the tank. If you still have time to take in more, consider visiting Ashtalakshmi temple, Aarupadai Veedu temple (both are by the ocean), Ayyappan temple, Vadapalani temple and Nanganallur Hanuman temple. You can hire an auto or call taxi to make this round trip. Takes about 4 hours or more depending on traffic.

I loved this temple the minute we stepped into its huge complex. The bright colours and the thousands of small statues / figurines everywhere dazzled me. The temple itself is very beautiful architecturally and the stone / granite work is awesome. A must visit.
