Owner description: This expansive beach is Chennai's most famous tourist attraction, though the undercurrent is too strong for all but the strongest swimmers. Look out for the "Kannagi" statue on Marina Beach, which tells the story of the legendary character from a South Indian epic.

The beach itself is beautiful. The upkeep is better than it used to be. It can get very crowded in the summer time. Very busy area in the AM for exercise purposes.

The Marina beach is a good place for evening walk for the people because you will feel the cool breeze when you will walk over the sand on the sea-shore. Here, there are various food stalls and this is an enjoyable place for the kids. Sometimes, especially on Sundays and holidays, here is very much crowd but still a good place for spend you evening.

If you are staying near here and want to get some fresh air, this may be the place. Do not expect too much in terms of cleanliness or activities, you can watch/stand in the waves and may be if you are brave you can try the food and other snacks sold in the make shift restaurants. If you do, remember NOT to consume anything uncooked or made with non-packaged water. There are horse rides available, though we did not try it. On the other hand, if you are lucky you can see fishermen unloading their catch which is interesting. This beach is really long, we found the location near Gandhi statue to be less crowded than in the North towards the harbor. Another option is the Elliott's beach which is south of Marina beach and relatively cleaner and less crowded.

Great place to take young kids out in the evening or for elders to take a stroll. Food stalls galore, albeit too many of them. Soft sands make walking bear feet a pleasure. Lot of rides for kids including horse rides
