Owner description: This expansive beach is Chennai's most famous tourist attraction, though the undercurrent is too strong for all but the strongest swimmers. Look out for the "Kannagi" statue on Marina Beach, which tells the story of the legendary character from a South Indian epic.

Its a lovely beach, long stretch, but sadly its over crowded, dirty and unkempt. Going to the beach on weekends and evenings is quite stressful. Best time is at dawn, when hawkers have not yet set up their stalls, but you will have to wade through the litter from the previous evening.

The Marina beach road is a lovely stretch walk, especially during dawn/dusk, watching the sun etc. But its too crowded and you can't really enjoy the beach/waves amidst all the chaos.

This is one of the most famous beaches in Chennai. However is not as clean as many other beaches. Gandhi beach, a portion of Marina beach would be still comparatively well maintained.
People can find small hawkers roaming around selling Sundals (Chana), raw mangoes, peanuts, corn cobs , tea, coffee etc. People can also enjoy a horse ride here.
