Have visited this many times since early 2000. This place is slowly losing its charm because of other new spacious malls in the city.

However, good to remember this -
If you want international brands, you can get them at any mall, Express Avenue, or Citi Center.
If you are looking for some "Indian" gifts for friends, colleagues when travelling abroad, this is a very good place.

You can get handicrafts, wooden elephants, some miniature of Taj mahal, etc etc typically denoting India. There is also a store where you can buy pashmina shawls and thats quite good too. Please be sure to BARGAIN ! Thats important. No point in complaining that you were fleeced.

Rest is all normal, nothing worth raving about. In general the new phase is spacious compared to the old one.

For the "Made In India" stuff, definitely YES !

This is a big plaza with quite a selection of products. They do not have the foreign brands but you can find quite local stuffs there. You can get some local stuff for sovereigns, BUT do remember to BARGAIN as they might just quote you a tourism price!

There is a food court at the top level with a good variety of food available. KFC and Subway is there. You can get brands like Bata, guardian or nuts and spices in the plaza.

My favourite stall is Landmark, which is also available in Citicentre. They carry a wide range of products, from DVD, CD, board games, toys, magazines and books. I normally spend most of my time there. They do have local brands of shirts which you are able to get for a good price. Do check out their promos and do remember to bargain for deals.

It is a 5 to 10 mins walk to the newest shopping mall, Express Avenue.

This is a Very old mall in the city even one of the oldest mall in the country. I visited more then 50 times in Spencer Plaza since 2005. When i first visited Spencer plaza that time it was the biggest mall in Chennai and was really Good. Full of crowd. It has both Branded Outlets and small shops.

But now it Lost its charm. Sometime No Power. Less Powerful AC. Few Elevators are not working. Few shops are closed (Even the Spencer daily also moved from Ground floor). Very less crowded compared to other new malls in Chennai.

Only the Good thing is Food Court (Akshaya Food Court), It remains same as earlier. Inside Akshaya you will find KFC, Saravana Bhavan and other few Restaurants. Foods are awesome here.

Due to less maintenance Spencer lost its charm. But still its a paradise for real shoppers and food lovers as you can find Good Brands and ordinary retail outlets (they offer Cheap price but very Fashionable goodies) and Great quality foods.

However if you just for time pass then visit Nearby EA Mall.

This is an old mall, but filled with a treasure trove of small retailers as well as larger outlets (the biggest Landmark with home&kitchen ranges as well as books, entertainment, toys, stationery). It's tricky to find one's way around with different escalators, lifts and "phases" to the centre but worth it. There's a good meat shop as well as lots of tourist stores. Do bargain (if I am genuinely shopping around I have been offered very good prices as I leave...) in these sorts of stores. We also like the cookie store, Nuts&Spices, the food court (accepting cash rather than requiring one to buy a payment card) and of course the little FabIndia. There's a newly opened "games" room on the ground floor as well as some (very old) toddler rides under each set of escalators. Beware the power cuts as you need to work out how to get back to the carpark or out of the mall when you can't use escalators or lifts.

I have been visiting Spencer Plaza for the last 10 years. The first time i went, i was in my final year college and was excited. Variety of shops to buy, to eat and spend time. Now i visited the place 10 days back... was a sunday and believe me the place was half empty... no air condition... most of the shops closed... and it was just so disheartening to see such a wonderful place loose its charm completely. Opening of other big malls in the city has certainly had its effect...

Still if u want a good bargain, and if you are good in bargaining Spencer Plaza is still the place to look out for. But if you are just looking to spend some good time, choose another place.
