I stayed at Taj Connemara along with a group of my students as part of the 34th World University Debating Championship. The hotel was filled with students as well as a few other guests. Amazing service! Within walking distance to great shopping. Rickshaws available right outside or hotel can arrange taxis. Staff were very accommodating in all areas! Small gym but great for working out and very nice secluded pool. Cleaning staff on 3rd floor went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Buffet looked amazing but we didn't get to eat there as the WUDC student group was provided with a private breakfast area which was more like a continental breakfast! Would definitely recommend this hotel!

This is an absolutely lovely hotel. Large rooms, open spaces and a colonial atmosphere and everything you would expect from a 4/5 * luxury chain.

The pool area is well isolated from external noise and is a perfect venue for a few G&T's whether after a days work or a days chilling out. On the far side of the pool is a Spa offering a range of services.

As you would expect from a hotel of this type the service is great and staff friendly. I don't think i opened a single door myself during my stay..... however you do feel you need to tip at a higher rate than at other hotels in India.

The hotel is located not far from the main roads so if you are staying for business, traffic permitting it shouldn't take you too long to reach the likes of Tata, Quscient etc.

I spent 4 weeks on business staying at the Connemara; it may not be the grandest hotel in Chennai but it is certainly the most famous. The corridors are steeped in history and the hotel have some fine historical displays along the winding corridors. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the rooms are spacious and well-appointed with laptop safes, ironing boards and reliable wi-fi. The Verandah coffee shop is excellent with extremely well cooked Indian, Chinese and European dishes at a very reasonable price. The pool area is enclosed and very peaceful as well as being a sun-trap.I would certainly stay there again but I have 2 reservations in that there is a prevailing sense of damp in the rooms and corridors and my room's bell seemed to be connected with the central electricity system so that whenever there was a power cut the bell rang loudly and, for me, this happened during the night on no fewer than 3 occasions. However, I did notice that my room's bell was different from the others in the corridor so, perhaps, I had a freak experience!

Room Tip: If you want a bath, as well as a shower, choose a room in the older part of the hotel.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel arriving very early a.m. Reception was great and the room was extremely comfortable. Wonderful large swimming pool which is a nice relief from the heat and dirt of Chennai. The breakfast at Verandah is enormous and I tried two of the other restaurants for dinner, both great. (Hip Asia has a variety of choices from Thai to Vietnamese and Raintree is a great introduction to south Indian cuisine). The staff was wonderful throughout the hotel. The desk clerk even offered to set up an appointment for a massage at the neighboring Taj Club House hotel when the in-hotel spa was booked. He even offered to take me across the street himself if I was nervous about walking on my own. This is a historic old hotel (totally renovated) and make sure to look at the wonderful photos from the 1930s displayed all around the hotel. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed two nights at this hotel in December 2013. The check in was smooth and the room very comfortable and elegantly decorated. However, the telephone was not working and it took many reminders to get it fixed. The front office staff was also cold and curt.

However, this was more than amply made up by the excellent support we received from Mr Gajanan Borde who seemed responsible for our wing. He volunteered to get an alteration of one of our clothing just purchased when we asked him for a needle/thread so that we could do it. He organised for the phone to be fixed, the complimentary basket of fruits to be provided. He made the visit worthwhile and his pleasant smile will always remain with us.

The room was well equipped with all facilities.

Overnight stay during a business trip. One of the first things i heard was that it is over 150 years old and that does mean something. Also found out that some people frequented chennai and choose to stay only at the this hotel. Relaxed setting, lots of families around, great food both at dinner and at breakfast. Value for money. Nice swimming pool and attentive hotel staff.

Room Tip: All rooms are great.
