“Old world charm”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We were in chennai for a conference & stayed there for 3 days. The hotel is clean &rooms are spacious but quite old.
Some rooms have really spacious bathrooms but some are narrow. The hotel needs a facelift & I hope it's done soon. The breakfast is really very good & I enjoyed every bit. Traffic is chaotic in Chennai & getting to the city can be a mess. The hotel is close to the airport which makes it a good choice for people flying out the same day. I would definitely stay there again, but I do hope it is refurbished. The new ITC Grand Chola is closely & that should push the management towards refurbishing this facility.

I would have stayed at Le Meridian Chennai at least 6 times over last couple of years. Primarily because it is one of our company approved hotels at a convenient location (near the airport, not too far from my place of work). But the standard / up keep of the hotel has been constantly falling. This time when I stayed there for a couple of nights in Aug, 12 - I asked for a cup of filter coffee at the time of check in. Usually, one would get served in the dome (the lobby) but I was surprise to hear a response that I should order from the room. Guess not too customer friendly.

The room offered was probably a bigger / better room (they would have upgraded me I guess) but it was on the top floor where their sea food restaurant is housed. The entire floor would stink. As a result , had to get the room changed in the first 20 minutes.

The new room provided had the electronic safe missing. The tea kettle was not working properly. And I would only get hot water in the shower!

Also the gym equipment in this hotel has to be one of the oldest I would have ever seen. Badly needs an upgrade.

I did give the feedback online via the SPG survey. At least I got an email from someone from the hotel apologizing and promising an upgrade for my next visit. But I suspect I may not be going any time soon!

I come very frequently to this hotel : restaurants and service are excellent but really the building and the rooms should be updated and refurbished. The seafood restaurant is really one of the best in town even if a bit expensive.

We conducted 14th Annual Conference of Pediatric Cardiac Society of India, 2012 in hotel le meridien from 5th to 7th October 2012. It was a grand success.I wish to say "THANKS" to all stuff of the hotel who helped us with their heart at every time ...Sathya Mohan fantastically co ordinated the event. We were completely knocked down by the team spirit of the Le Meridien hotel which I observed during co ordination meeting. The offer from SACHI ( Banquet) and team for a buffet lunch only when we were asking for less was amazing. My Check-in in the hotel happened over phone and everything was ready when I reached. Thanks to the reservation team, front desk The GM's generous offer to open CILANTRO in breakfast was widely appreciated by all the delegates. The offer of SACHI to get Core Committee lunch in CILANTRO was equally rewarding.Mr Kannan of banquet came to my rescue multiple time. The GM ,Jenifer was always seen roaming around supervising and not confined to the office and it was appreciable to all. Priya, Sruti, the reservation desk, the travel desk all were very helpful. Thanks again. My Meeting with Mr Baidya , the Chef was amazing. I gave him feedback on day 1 and he changed the menu to keep the standard of the Le Meridien very high... People were seen in Q for hot Jalebi and Rabri... We Stuffed with intense academic material and the Chef with team stuffed with delicious food... The evening disco on 6th was a surprise to all...The Venus was perfect match for a large scale international conference where multiple breakaway sessions are needed . . Overall everybody helped... they put their heart and warmth in welcoming the PCSI2012. I may not know all by name but I noted the good work carried forward. My Sincere thanks to the LE MERIDIEN... Please pass on this to all concerned.. I have only limited e mail list'
In future the hotel will again be a preferred venue for a big conference ..
Thanks
Dr Anil K Singhi

Dear Dr. Singhi
Thank you for taking out time to write such a wonderful review of our hotel and our services here on Trip Advisor. We really appreciate that you took your time out to compose such a detailed review, mentioning the staff personally and the excellent services rendered, during the Annual Conference of the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India earlier this month.
We as a team are glad to have been of service and to have helped your event to run smoothly and successfully.

I know, indeed, of nothing more subtly satisfying and cheering than- a knowledge of the real good will and appreciation of others. Such happiness does not come with money, nor does it flow from fine physical state. It cannot be brought. But it is the keenest joy, after all; and the toiler's truest and best reward. Your warm words of appreciation have been shared with all our associates and they are truly very encouraged by them.
Thank you once again!

I have recently spent a two week spell at this hotel, during a during a Blind Chess Olympiad. I felt the staff could not have been more helpful. Yes, the hotel needed a possible refit to bring it more up-to-date but I found the rooms excellent. They were large, clean and comfortable. The only complaint was the small and expensive bar. The bar staff needed to be a little more friendly and helpful, considering guests had major sight problems. However the general hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel manager was approachable and aware of our group needs.

Room Tip: Speak to the manager if you have a problem. go direct!!

Read a comment stating it as ageing hotel... and thats right... Rooms were dull, i dont know if it was the chennai weather in peak of summer that did it for me!! All I could see from window was inside lobby. Again probably wrong choice of room!!

Overall service was good but food seemed to be slightly overpriced depending on the taste!!

breakfast was good. good south Indian dishes served ... for North Indian i would suggest to avoid trying typical north Indian dishes :D

Room Tip: ask them to provide a room with open lights... else the room gets gloomy!!

It is overall a nice hotel but ageing. Anybody who wants hipp and modern this is not the hotel for you. It is a bit of a colonial feeling to it. The room is also a bit aged and certainly need refurbishment which I was told they are gradually undertaking. The staff are friendly and provide good service. There may be other newer hotels which are cheaper and more value for money, this one is expensive for an old hotel.
