Owner description: Adding another feather to its intellectual cap, Chennai is now home to South Asia’s largest library. So if you are a book lover and need a break from the city’s commotion, this is the place for you. The Anna Centenary Library is an eight-story structure that has recently added to the city’s growing modern landscape in the Kotturpuram area. A Braille section, children’s corner, replica of the "Tree of Knowledge," an auditorium and an amphitheater make quite an impression on visitors.

“The Anna Centenary Library”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

One of the remarkable achievements of the then Education Minister THNGAM TYHENNARASU, who was the master brain behind it. Any person with the scant interest of reading and visiting library, will be sure tempted to enter and to have a glance . There are separate well arranged sections and huge number of books stored. But it is pity that it is not maintained well now, because of political animosity. Hundreds of prisons will be closed by reopening this sort of library. Please kindly arrange to maintain the library well. That is the real wish of every bibliophile.

“a library one must not miss”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

this library is very spacious and very well organised with floor wise segregation, meeting requirements of one and all. it is quite useful for the students community, considering that it is at walking distance from madras university/iit/clri. additionally, if you are new to chennai and have time to spare and do not want to waste money, this is the best place. you can spend the whole day, enriching your knowledge.

“Temple of Knowledge!”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

I've been a big fan of a few other libraries in Chennai, but this is undoubtedly the best of the lot. Well-designed and well-maintained seven floors of knowledge store and this is something no one could afford to miss. Each floor is dedicated to a few areas, for e.g., the sixth floor stock books on art, architecture, management and technology. The reference books were good (at least in my areas of interest) and readers can also enjoy the view of green cover of the Anna University and Adayar region which is a feast to the eyes. There is also a food court available with in the premises.

“Cool place to fill your brain with books”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

In our recent trip to chennai, our home city, we visited this library. Situated in the central kotturpuram area, this had amazing 8 floors of airconditioned books extravaganza. Most of the time we spent in level 1 which had a great collection of children books. The children books collections range was from 0-20 years, it has fiction/non fiction, great reference type books and few computers that children can explore as well.
Other floors included Tamil literature books, Science, Geography, History, Astronomy and almost any topic you would like to explore a book on.
This is one of its kind i have ever seen across the country. I have been to public libraries such as British council, but this covered a really vast range.
If you are the book worm, this would be your destination in chennai.

Most importantly, given the chennai heat, this really can cool you down and fill your brain with enough from these vast collection of books.

Kudos to Kalignar and whoever involved in bringing this amazing marvel to city of chennai.
