Owner description: Close to Marina Beach, yet another architectural wonder from the 8th century can be part of the itinerary. An intricate pyramid-shaped rajagopuram (dome) stands prominently and is the main feature of the temple. As anecdotes go, the British were unable to pronounce the original name, Thiriallikeni, and rechristened it Triplicane.

It was a good experience visiting this temple. The poojaries was very cooperative for puja. Better take the Darshan ticket.

The roads are very crowded. I traveled from Airport to this temple and had to be back within 3 hours for my flight. It took almost 1 hour to get to the temple. Similarly another 1 hour to return. Inside the temple, since it wasn't too crowded at the time I visited, I was able to pray peacefully.

The Sri Parthasarthy temple is one the largest and oldest temples in Chennai. The temple is beautiful with two Gopurams and five Vimanams and two main shrines present back to back. You feel at peace inside from the tumultous world outside. The temple sees huge crowds during festivals and the small and narrow bylanes surrounding it are full of devotees. The best time is to visit the temple on a day when there is no special event at the temple and just sit down and introspect.

This temple is historic and it is a huge area around the main shrine. It is customary to visit the deity Vedavalli first and then visit the main deity - Parthasarathy perumal. The Sanctum Santorum where Parthasarathy Perumal is, you will find more generations of his family there, a very complete sight :) . Other deities like Lord Narasimha, Lord Varadaraja and Andal are also present in the same campus. It is very crowded on festival and special occasions , so beware of the timings if you are choosing one of those days to visit. And yes, the food part, the Puliyodharai (tamarind rice) is a must try here.

You will surely be assured of some inner peace here when you spend some time sitting quietly near one of those many pillars :)
