my friends are I along with our wives had a quite lunch in this Lebanese/ Iranian cafe. Even though the buffet spread did not look long it looked quite tasty. The owner of the restaurant was really friendly as was his staff. He explained about all the dishes that were spread out on the table.
We started off with a frozen Guava Juice. This was really cool and refreshing. Then we had a very tasty Curd soup. Yes, you read it right!, soup with curd, oats, rice, etc as the ingredients. We had this soup along with some nice tasting eggplant dish( curd was the other ingredient in this), veg rolls, some salads, Pita with Humus( must be their traditional dish). The main course consisted of BBQ chicken which was excellent, Green colored fish curry. This dish was really amazing. They also had a variety of rice, which included Chicken Biryani, etc. They also had mutton with egg plant dish and chicken in apricot sauce, a bit too sweet for my taste. I did not have dessert, however, my wife really enjoyed the dessert which had options from Coconut mousse, Ice cream and some variety of cake. They also served lemon tea at the end to digest off a very fine meal. I would recommend this to anybody who likes to try out Lebanese/ Iranian cuisine.

Just as you enter the Cholamandalam Artists Village in Injambakkam on East Coast Road, there is a huge brick building on the right, the Art Gallery. Just after that a tiny wicker gate, a path, leads to Shiraz Cafe. Set among huge trees in a open courtyard are different tables. There are a few tables set in the verandah too, of the Cafe. Or you could walk inside the glass-enclosed hall and sit. This is also the place where the buffet is laid out on weekends and public holidays. They serve ala carte on other days.
When I had finished taking in the peaceful, green atmosphere, there was a big glass of juice sitting on my table. The guava-based juice (it had some kiwi in it too) was so fresh, unlike the artificial, syrupy-tasting excuse for a drink that is sometimes served in buffets. Then I picked up my plate and started loading it with stuff that was presented very well - all the vegetarian dishes in a round table; the different kinds of rice on one table; the soup with the plates, cups, forks n spoons on one; the non-veg dishes on one side and the desserts in the other end of the room - each dish labelled clearly.
When a dish is good, one doesn't have to taste it to know that - just the smells wafting from it, the way it looks, every aspect of it will scream out loudly to load your plate with it. And thats what happened here, but sadly, it was every dish that was screaming. I managed to taste everything, but as another visitor told the host, 'You need to provide us with extra stomachs too!'
The hummus, the crispy thin pita with it, the mutabal (mashed brinjal with pomegranate seeds strewn on top), the cucumber tomato onion salad with powdered herbs, the cheese balls, the thick wheat rotis, the four different kinds of rice (including a chicken biriyani and an awesome orange-peel rice), the apricot chicken gravy, the mutton with greens... drool, drool, drool.
It was obvious that each dish had been carefully prepared by the chef - every time the food was refilled, it was like cooked just then, not from the bottom of the pan. Every dish had its fill of the vegetables or meat it needed to have, not just a few pieces here and there; every dish had just the right flavour of spices it needed. The host stood there and helped us in choosing the right palate - "this orange-peel rice has to be had with the apricot chicken gravy; oh you like mutton, then you take this green rice with the mutton, tell me if you like it".
For dessert there was an apple cinnamon cake, a coffee-chocolate cake, a custard and rose-flavoured vanilla icecream, which were all good, and the icecream, exceptional!
Here comes the best part.... all this exotic food came at Rs. 600 per head!!
Unbelievable but true. I am definitely going to keep visiting till this place becomes it becomes an open secret hangout place :)
