Woodlands hotel in R k Salai, Mylapore is one of the few hotels that dates back to pre independent days and was founded about 70 years ago , by Mr.Krishna Rao hailing from Udipi .

He built his hotel industry through sheer hard work , gentle & kind demeanour and hospitality personified ..Its no wonder he
was able to establish successful hotels
in addition to Chennai and other states and abroad as well.
My personally connection with Woodlands started with one of his son Late Gopal Rao becoming my class mate in early 60's while at MCCH school and later he managed the now closed Woodlands drive in restuarant very successfully .
His brothers continued to manage the other hotels in the chain, after Mr Krishna rao's demise .
His other Son Shankar Rao who managed for many years this Mylapore hotel ,is no more but it continues to maintain the highest standards established by Mr Krishna Rao.

The Chennai hotel in RK salai has three restaurants. One is Tanjore restuarant in first floor , which serves simple 3 course south Indian Thali at very affordable rate in plantain leaf.

Another is a south Indian restuarant located in the west wing of Ground floor .This offers breakfast , lunch and dinner and is an all day restuarant serving typical south Indian items like Idli ,Vada ,Dosa , pongal and south Indian Thali during lunch and dinner time .

The one I am reviewing today is Vrindavan multicuisine restuarant ,which I visited this Sunday afternoon with my wife for lunch and this is located in the east wing in ground floor.

We ordered tandoori items like butter Naan ,Tandoor Roti ,Panner Butter Masala and Dhal Makhni. The food tasted excellent.

We concluded our lunch with typical curd rice pickle and vathal kulambu. The bill came to about Rs 710 .Very reasonable taking into considetation the cool Ac ambience and portions served .

I avoided their unlimited south Indian Thali meal , for when I had it during my earlier t
the food tasted fine when I eat but it did
not leave a pleasant after meal feeling .

Contrary to that, today's choice gave me a feel good factor.

In line with its name the restuarant has a number of Lord Krishna 's paintings adorning its wall adding to its ambience coefficient .The service was prompt and effecient .

I would surely recommend this resturant for
eating out with Family and friends .

The restaurant is located within the New Woodlands Hotels on Cathedral Road and offers different cuisines. But it is most famous for its South Indian meals of `thalis'.

The food is good, the service also rather fast. It is on the expensive side but the restaurant is always full!

We used to visit this restaurant often. Last Wednesday, to celebrate the birthday of my grand son we had been to this restaurant with family. Restaurant's ambiance is very good and we get a family atmosphere. Service is quick and Good. Polite staff and good reception. Food of course excellent... Both South and North Veg items were very good..
Coffee is very very good.. Cost is affordable. Car parking is available inside.
We like this restaurant very much.

Fantastic food supported by an excellent staff who are courteous and know their stuff. All stuff on the Menu is good and my fav is the Mysore Masala Dosa. Try their Continental or even the famous Rasa Vadai/ Tayir Vadai. Not a place to miss in case you love good Veg food and are a gastronomic enthusiast. One of the food joints that is a 'must go' in Chennai!
