“Tasty, Authentic Bangali Food”
Reviewed December 26, 2011

The food is delicious, a little expensive, but worth it. Menus are misleading, so, if you plan to have a particular type/ preparation of fish, just ask for it. I'll get back to Bay Leaf for more.

Located on Cathedral Road, just around the lane that goes beside Gangotri.

“Treat of Bengali Cuisins”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

We wanted to have a nice bengali lunch and got into this.
The restaurant possesses a nice ambience with superb touch of Kolkata. There are some Maa Durga Idols, portraits of old Kolkata etc. Let me share the eating experience!!

Bengali Thali was not available, which I wanted to have. But no worries, the food was very nice and cooked in proper bengali fashion. Some of the items which we tried, have been listed below with the verdicts.

Steam Rice: Any one can make this delicious
Moong Dal: Good
Green Peas Pulao: Excellent
Kabiraji: Excellent
Chicken Cutlet: Excellent (Must Try)
Alu-Posto: Good
Chicken Masala: Very Good
Mutton Masala: Mixed Feelings
Kankra-Chingdi Bhanpe (Crab-Prawn Steamed inside Banana Leaf): Very Good
Fried Items: Average (Brinjal pieces were not cooked properly, there was less salt in Potol (Bengali/Oriya Term) Fry, Potato crispy fry was good.
Mango Chatni: Average (The juice was not thick)

GO THERE AND HAVE FUN.
Note: Price is on bit higher side.

How to Reach:
Proceed in Cathedral Road (The road adjacent to USA Embassy towards Citi Center)
Cross 1st Signal, then within 50 mts there is Gongothri restaurant on left hand side.
Take the left street adjacent to Gongothri.

Enjoy your food.

“Eclectic cuisine built around a Bengali core”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

This is a quaint little place in a quiet leafy neighborhood.
Overall, this place offers very good dining experience with a choice of north Indian cuisine that is built around what is a bengali menu at the core. The place already seems to be hit among the few Bengali's in Chennai and certainly deserves better patronage from the rest of the population as well. Service is good, portions generous, pricing ranges from moderate to STEEP.

“Superb Bengali restaurant in Chennai!”
Reviewed March 30, 2011

It is probably the best Bengali restaurant in Chennai. It is conveniently located. The atmosphere is good. Biriyani,Mutton curry,Aloo Dum,Prawn Malai curry.....I couldnt have expected anything more. Food is great and service is quick. Infact there are very few restaurants in Chennai where north-indian food is prepared the way it should be. All the bengalis dying to eat bengali food in chennai should visit this place. Price is reasonable. They have good desserts like malpoa and kheer too. They also have home delivery but within a limited are. It gets a bit crowded on weekends thoughI will certainly visit this restaurant when I to Chennai again.

“Bengali and Punjabi- but not the real thing!”
Reviewed February 19, 2011

Everything is ok, but you would not go back unless you had to. The menu has Punjabi and Bengali dishes, I was disappointed as a Bengali, and my colleague was disappointed as a Punjabi. The owner is very hospitable though, one could go back just for her!
