Lovely food and served hot doubles the charm. It still has the same old aura of yesteryears and one is very attracted by the simple set up across the restaurant chain

Madurai in South of India has many things to it's credit and finds mentioned in ancient Tamil scripture and to many if you ask what is Madurai Famous for , most probably everyone will tell you About the lady Kannagi who burned down Madurai during the Pandyan rule , due to injustice done to her husband and who was put to death by the Pandya king by mistake . Another attraction they will tell you is Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple .

But what they may not tell you is that it's a great place for authentic south indian food both vegetarian and non vegetarian that is served through day and night ad this town never sleeps like Mumbai with plenty of street stall .Jigiridhandha desert is the main desert of Madurai handed down by the Nawabs .

Murugan Idli shop has the credit of having its humble beginning 2 decades ago as a small tiffin shop in Madurai serving coffee and snacks to start with and both husband and wife team putting their hands together.
Later they added hot idlis served in plantain leaf that becane a big success story behind this food outlet that now boasts of many branches in many places other than Madurai .

In Chennai itself they have many outlets and is run efficiently by their son Mr .Manahor who continues to serve the traditional idlis on plantain leaf , while adding a twist with veriety of chutneys in addition to tasty Sambar.

Their Dosa and vada also became a hit and soon their outlets seemed to witness people waiting for a seat.

One secret mantra for success was their pricing strategy and they took on Saravana Bhavan on this one score .

Technically it meets the aspiration of middle and lower middle class people's need for a quick filling tasty meal at any time .

The food is served hot with Sambar and the concept of using bio degradable plantain leaf surely is healthy and non polluting but
It surely is messy while the table is being readied for a new diner, after one has had his hearty meal .

In some outlets Cleanliness is not great and I would rate a restuarant higher if only they have and maintain a spick and span toilets and washroom and I don't think they have this facility in all outlet .Water for hand wash is often in shortage at their outlets .

So connossuier of food who expect a good ambience in addition to taste and quality may not frequent this hotel often, with probably their Anna Nagar outlet being a notch better being located in a more up market locality. Their outlet on Bangalore highway i had visited twice near kancheepuram could perhaps be rated as Their best .

I must also mention one of their speciality is Chakkarai pongal which they inherited when they took over another hotel by its name on
Usman Road .

To conclude it's a fantastic budget restuarant with restricted items and oil fried item like poories has never been on their menu from start with vada being an exception.

All though I have been visiting this resturant
Many times inn the past , mostly for take away, I decided to review this place for the benefit of travellers who take the reviews presented in Trip advisor quite seriously
And often find it useful when they travel .

The shop is like a diner, where you seat and the food starts pouring in from all sides. They keep on serving all the varieties of dishes except dosas. The idlis, wadas and their signature desserts keep on coming. The restaurant is easy on pocket too. The taste of the food is out of the world. Must try is Podi Idli.
