“Very good Choice in Jaipur!!”
Reviewed May 1, 2011

We stayed in Karni Niwas 2 nights, it´s a very nice hotel, clean and cheap. The staff is realy kind. You have 2 pc to use internet and a printer, we use it to print our train tickets. The hotel is in a very good location, near the Train Station, and 10 minutes walking to the old city.

Room Tip: very good location and price

Karni Niwas is a very friendly guest house, free train station pick up was incredibly helpful after a long journey. rooms are clean but air con is needed. we started off iwth just a fan and it was unbearable due to high ceilings so we upgraded for an extra 2 pounds a night, food was good and room service was a bonus. swimming pool about 3 mins walk away was definately needed in the heat

Room Tip: air con rooms

We arranged our stay here over the phone from India and we were told we could call when we arrived at the station for a pick up even though it would be 5am. Unfortunately when we arrived and tried to call the number it went straight through to voicemail. This was probably the only negative of the whole stay though.

Once we got to the hotel, only 5 minutes from the station, the manager let us check in despite checking in normally being midday. He explained that we wouldn’t be charged an extra night for doing so! We stayed one night in the 1000 rupee room and then 3 nights in the 600 rupee room.

The first one was massive, high ceilings, a huge comfortable bed, the biggest bath you’d ever seen and a tv. A great outdoor area to have tea and drinks too. Everything was very clean but almost clinical as the whole room was rather bland.

The 600 rupee room, was actually our favourite as it had much more character. Pretty paintings, a view of the ever so quiet street and the most quaint window seat where I sat reading. This room was much smaller but had a very comfortable bed. Shower room was clean and had hot-ish water.

Be prepared for your food orders to take a rather long time! The food is ok but I would say it is catered for an English palate. Breakfast options are good and the chai is yummy.

We also made good use of the free wi-fi. A good stay.

I spent a night at the Karni Niwas and, particularly after the madness of Delhi, really enjoyed my stay. The room was very cheap but when I got there I was pleased to see that it was a good size, was clean and that the shower was hot (my main requirements when in India!). Obviously for the price it wasn't a palace - this is budget accommodation - but it was some of the best I've stayed in.

The manager was really friendly and he arranged a tuk-tuk driver to take me round the next day, gave me good advice about what was a fair price etc. Recommended.

We booked a room at Karni Niwas at the last minute after a room at another hotel fell through, and we're glad we did. The owners/managers picked us up at midnight at no charge from the station and kindly warded off the rickshaw hawkers who had congregated around us. We were given a choice of an Rs800 standard or Rs1300 deluxe room. We chose the deluxe, but the standard is more than adequate for most travellers, and both are a great deal. All rooms are built around roomy courtyards and leafy balconies overlooking the city. Breakfast can be served to one of these outdoor areas, or to the rooms, which have a little table and seating area. The two managers are super friendly and always willing to help. They were particularly useful in booking us trips to outlying forts and temples at very fair and reasonable prices and were full of advice about local attractions. There were some nice added touches like not charging me for water, and helping to print off some train tickets. The location is very central--close to the station and walkable to the pink city (though a cycle rickshaw might be an easier way to travel). The only point for improvement is that at peak times the check in area gets rather busy and it can take a while to get served. While there is no shortage of menial staff, a third manager who speaks English and is as helpful as the two managers we dealt with would make the service even better. Thank you so much for a delightful stay, and we hope to return soon!

Booked this online the morning I left Pushkar and had no problem checking in. Was moved to another room after the first night due to Room 103 being next to accommodation used for visiting mental health patient (who had the tv on full blast and screamed and shouted until 2am!). HOWEVER the other room was lovely and quiet with very little noise from the surrounding area. Location is very convenient for both the train and railway station, showers are hot and the staff are friendly. Would recommend it for convenience, comfort and approachability of staff.
