We booked SMS Hotel at the last moment and grabbed a great deal through cleartrip and boy, what a beautiful experience we had...the Front Desk were kind enough to upgrade us to the Annexe Room of Rambagh Palace, with an air-conditioned private sit-out with a parking.

Though we stayed just for a night, had a great time at Steam - the bar at Rambagh, just outside our room were a bunch of happy peacocks! Our room # 426 was beautiful, mattress though was a bit dated but overall, the amenities, tea-coffee maker, sense of royalty was oozing out from every artifact, paintings and the 200 year old mansion and a beautiful swimming pool just made out stay even more thrilling!

Highly recommended for weekenders seeking affordable luxury in the heart of Pink City.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms overlooking Rambagh palace for that Regal experience.

In the grounds of Rambagh Palace, which you cannot visit without spending money there. Enjoyed the buffet. Room large and OK but curtains wouldn't draw back.

No complaints but would have preferred a bit more animation from the staff.

I was there for a conference and the conference was in the same property.
To begin with this is a Taj property but except of the in-house magazines nothing was marked as a Taj property.
Check was fast and efficient. I had take a delux room but I regretted it as the normal room had a better view than mine. The only thing is that the room was huge.
The sitting area was too primitive and out dated. the beds and air conditioning was good.
The bathroom is outdated and need to be moderised. I must say that everything was working properly so i guess they see no reason to change. The toleteries could be better.
The check out was smooth. The staff was helpful and good.
The breakfast was ordinary. Nothing to write about.
The propety need work.. need to be modernised.

Would I stay there again.. Not quite as there are better properties at lesser rates .

Room Tip: do not opt for the superior rooms. they are not worth the extra money.

Very small property, big rooms, okay service. Didn't look like a Taj property or a 5 star hotel. We traveled to Jaipur by road so parking the car was not an issue in front of the small haveli kind of hotel. Small breakfast place in the hotel with limited options. Sharing the backward with Rambagh Palace, a more known and a heritage hotel by Taj is definitely worth visiting in the evening. If you are on a busy trip or visit Jaipur for tourism then this place is highly recommended. For a pleasure and relaxing luxury trip its a big NO.

Had initially stayed at this hotel (its 21 rooms so really a very small hotel)- 5 years ago- and thought it was a hidden gem, great service, great rooms, great food and great rates !
So last month, when I planned a quick trip with my family and looked for 2 rooms- I thought i was getting another great bargain. But I was in for a real disappointment.

The first thing I learnt was that we weren't in the hotel itself ( which was the annexe of the Rambagh Palace)- but its annexe - about 200 meters away. It was never specified at the time of the reservation. These rooms were completely detached from the hotel and were essentially done up rooms- I suppose from old verandahs or handloom stores. Per se, they weren't bad so that isn't the issue.
The issue was that they were away from the main hotel where we were to go for breakfast, dinner etc. With two elderly people and a toddler that was not easy- but since the rooms were adjacent to the road ( internal private road)- I was assured that during the day- I could park my car outside our rooms.
However when I went to fetch my car the trouble began. I was stopped by the security guard - who kept me waiting for 20 minutes till they called a small party over to ascertain that I could actually get my car over to where the rooms were. All this while I was baking in the hot sun.
Anyway after that I created a huge ruckus- and chased central reservations,
Post that they convinced the management to let me keep the car all night as well and also agreed to deliver the breakfast to our rooms the next day.
After a delightful stay at this hotel previously and other Taj properties, the service or the lack of it - was a shock. You could see that this is probably not the right property for the Taj group to be involved in.
And this tale of woe doesn't end here.
The food, always great at Taj hotels- was really really bad!
Even the ingredients - paneer, coconut chutney, and mutton were really poor. And this was not a one off meal- the thali the first afternoon and the breakfast next day smacked of quality that would be rated poor even if served in a 1 star restaurant let alone the 5 star business hotel that Taj claims it is.
Overall this was the worst experience at any Taj property- till date- and Taj really needs to rethink if this hotel is worth retaining in its' stable- maybe they could relabel it "Ginger" SMS !

Room Tip: Stay away from the annexe rooms

Over the last 10 years I have visited Jaipur more than 15 times and stayed in 10 different Hotels. This ranks high in my preference list Now. I traveled by road, with family and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Sharing the space with its more distinguished cousin , Rambagh Palace , the stay there was a steal. Spacious rooms, Excellent Service , reasonably good breakfast , its a pocket-friendly Taj affair. I will love to go back again. Just one word of advice , try to have lunch and Dinner elsewhere , Jaipur in any case has plenty of options .

Room Tip: Opt for swimming pool facing rooms

Stayed from 12th Sept to 14th Sept. while away on a busy trip.
If one is going to be extremely busy with no time to enjoy the property then SMS is the best bet. Neat Well maintained centrally located. Well maintained Rooms with a good service.
It gives almost all 5 Star Room benefits.
We used to leave in the morning & came in late and found the Rooms very good.
Large with good facilities
Well maintained lawns and a great Convention & Function area.
A great place for Conventions & Social functions !!
Weak point was they had just one resturant which becomes monotonous !!
This was my 2nd stay here everything was same excepting that this time they were short on some supplies !!
But overall was a good stay !!

Room Tip: New Block is Good
