I voice the same compliment from the reviewers for this guesthouse. It is superb clean. Floors are always swept and I felt bad sometimes dragging the dirts from the streets when coming back. Room is very spacious. Hot water is on 24 hrs (one day is not due to pwr outage which is common in India). The restaurants locates on the rooftop just as every hostel/guesthouse in India. The two guys run the front desk are helpful and sometimes can be too frank. The restaurant staff are wonderful. The one who clean my room daily are honest. I left the tip in the bathroom and he (most of the care takers in India are male gender) did not take it for fear of losing his job. I would definitely stay here if I stop in this town again. No one in this guesthouse opened their hand asking for tip as I experienced at some parts in India Ive been through.

The bus station is a short walk away but phone them the schedule of your bus and they have some rickshaws picking you up no matter your bus is late.

Regarding tips, I would say this. We often give a tip to the waiter/waitress when we dine. Even though this is guesthouse, those guys who serves us up in the rooftop would entitle the same. We don't throw our hard-earned money away but 10 or 20 rp in India would not ding your wallet or budget.

I stayed at the Sunder Palace towards the end of 2005 when it had only been opened a few months. It was excellent then, in terms of collection from the train station (only 5 mins by rickshaw), the food, the staff, the decor, the cleanliness, the garden and lastly the rooms. The room was spotless, well decored and had the facilities that you'd want. Actually the room was immaculate. I was concerned then that the prices would inflate over time but from the sounds of previous reviews, the price has been maintained as one member of the family that had run the palace told me they would be.

At the upper end of budget accomadation, if you are looking for somewhere to re-charge your batteries after a few hectic days in India, you can't go wrong with this place.

I had meant to e-mail Lonely planet previously to inform them of the Sunder Palace. I presume they know all about it now!

The Sunder Palace guesthouse markets itself as a budget hotel. But the only 'budget' aspect is the price. For Rs/-850 we got a large a/c room with attached bathroom and plenty of hot water. We had the deluxe room not the super deluxe - but the room was perfectly adequate and comfortable with a good table, chairs and a TV with 80 channels. I have had worse rooms in 4 star hotels.
Wifi was available in the room for a modest price, and the laudry service was good value. the hotel is situated in a quietish street in the city not far from the train station, or MI road. The reception staff are helpful and friendly.
The one downside is the rooftop restaurant. the food seems to be cooked by people with no catering experience, and the service is incredibly slow.
However there are good restaurants in Jaipur - check out Dasaprakash on MI road for superb dosas and icecream.

Like the previous reviewer we tried to book pearl palace and it was unavail and found sunder palace on TA. We were delighted with this place ., Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful gardens and roof top restaurant with stunnning views over thecity - we ate breakfast and dinner here both nights and we were not disappointed. This is a lovely place to stay and to escape the mayhem of downtown Jaipur. Would defn stay again. Our only suggestion for the future would be to offer credit card payment facilities.

initially i wanted to book peral palace but it was full. then i noticed this place which got quite good reviews here in TA so gave it a try - and i did not regret!

the property was actually in the same neighbourhood with pearl palace. its a 5 min walk to MI road where there's a coffee shop. decent food at a restaurant such as niros is around 20-30 mins walk away. its a 5-10 min tuk tuk ride from train station.

we got a 650rs room at ground floor. the room was very clean, tastely decorated and rather spacious, equipped with a large clean bathroom. it came with a TV! although the hot shower was sometimes not working, i would say from my own experience 650rs was a bargain for this sort of room quality in india. the room got a/c unit installed so i guess this was probably one of a/c rooms priced at non-a/c rates.

the rooftop restaurant offered a partial view of harthroi fort. menu included some pasta varieties and food was great. i also liked their cheese tomato sandwiches which we decided to pack away for our snack on night train next day.

internet was available at 40rs/hour and charged pro-rata at 10-min intervals. there was a shower/toilet at frontdesk area for guests to use after they checked out while waiting for trains.

i forgot to get the names of the staff at frontdesk who were very friendly and hospitable. at no time they were talking guests into deals. instead they discussed in length and surprisingly good english with travellers on their plans and gave a lot of useful info.

this is a very well managed guesthouse, and one of top quality. if guesthouse is where one wants to stay at while in jaipur, look no further and just book into this one. i just hope they dont raise their rates too fast once they got famous.

i'm totally satisfied during the stay - therefore a 5 out of 5 rating.
