“A Cool Royal Experience in A Budget Hotel”
Reviewed April 21, 2009

Umaid Mahal is a nice medium budget hotel (rooms in the range of 2400-3600 INR) located in Jaipur. It's near the collectorate circle and not very far from the city center. (about 6 KM from Ajmeri gate)
The newly built hotel is built with typical rajasthani palace design and motifs. The room I stayed was clean and all amenities (specially the bathroom - which I am very particualr about) were adequate. The hallways and the hotel interiors are very ornately decorated and gives you a feel of staying in a palace. The way they have managed to build the hotel utilizing the space is amazing...there is even a little swimming pool...
The food (there is a rooftop restaurant) is OK....I didn't like the Laal Maans (it's not the typical rajasthani recipe) but the veg thali was very good...The room service however charges 10% extra which is not a good idea...
The other problem was that of parking...the hotel has not been designed to handle more than 5/6 cars ...It's a very good hotel if you are travelling by Air/Train/Bus (they will provide complementary pick up from station/airport etc) but if you are travelling by your car, be ready to have some parking issues..

Overall I liked the Umaid Mahal hotel a lot...it's location (away from the buzz of the city), decor and food was above average...The service from the hotel staff was very good...
If only they could manage some more parking space...I would go there again soon..

Jaipur is full of quaint little hotels reputing to showcase Rajastani culture - this one certainly does. An old hunting lodge that has been completely renovated in a bright colourful manner. Rooms are clean and comfortable and bathrooms easily met the standards expected by my visitors from the UK. Whilst the Rooftop restaurant lacks the killer view it makes up with ambience and style. Service was unobstrusive but attentive. I would be happily revisit and recommend the hotel.

Umaid Mahal comes across as a very pleasant surprise...and at an equally attractive price :)

Our one night stay at Umaid Mahal, Jaipur was a wonderful experience and we would most definitely want to return to this beautiful property again. Being family-run, this heritage hotel is very well maintained and offers most regular facilities.

Keep it up! Cheers!

It was a wonderful experience.. great interiors, felt like was staying in a real rajastani haveli... the photographer's paradise!! Apart from this, the provisions like hot water, clean room, water etc was all well provided.

The roof top break fast was fun though the food wasnt all that great but the amount of variety provided was good. Location wise it was good as it was easily in the hub of all activity no matter where we wanted to travel..

Best place at the most reasonable price

My hubby and I had 2 nights at this hotel during a 3 week tour of India and we loved it. The outside looks very impressive, loads of character. The service was far better than the 5* hotel we had just come from and the room was large with an equally large wet room/bathroom.

As for location it is difficult to comment as we had our own driver, but it seemed to be in one of the better areas.

Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace and although un-inspiring it was adequate.

We had our laundry done here and it was returned within hours, all pressed and starched including Hubby's boxers!

We also booked one of the Ayurvedic massages and it was wonderful. The paper pantie contraption thingy is an experience.

One of our favourite hotels of our stay.

This was my first trip to Jaipur and I really wanted to stay in a classy Heritage property. Umaid Mahal came to me as a surprise package... a hotel that delivers exactly what it showcases on its website. A unique blend of Heritage & Style... each of the rooms exclusively designed to give travellers all the confort they would seek. The quality of food and the Rajasthani flavour (especially the Lal Maas) will not allow you to even think of other options.... The staff is courteous enough to be around you anytime you need them. It was really an experience of a lifetime...... Thank You Umaid Mahal
