“great place, great people, indian hospitality at it's best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

I don't usually write reviews but Shahar Palace is such a well run & enjoyable place to stay that I felt that the experience needed to be shared. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for; nice rooms, a great garden and owners who couldn’t be more helpful. We ended up staying twice as long as we intended and I look forward to returning before too long. A big thank-you to the Colonel, his wife, son & staff - your hospitality was unmatched by anywhere we stayed in India.
I also highly recommend Anwar, an auto-rickshaw driver we were introduced to by the Colonel. He was a calm, dependable and very reasonable person who made travelling around Jaipur effortless.

The premises are maintained very well. It is indeed a home away from home. A nice place to have a chilling out experience with friends and family in their lavishing loans and greenery spread all over the area. A place must to visit to complete your tour to Jaipur

Its a guest house, dont mistake it for a hotel. Its a heritage property, so dont expect an LCD TV or a modern bathroom or a cosy bed. People are nice. I happened to stay here, while on official trip. The property is well located in a prime area, but away from main city. The rooms are ok sorts and lacks proper illumination. There are just 2 small bulbs in the room and out of that 2, 1 was always out of order. The The property owner's son - Fateh was very helfpful in booking procedures. This is a family run guest house and owned by a retired army officer and his wife. The room which i was alloted, had broken toilet commode and the pipe connecting the water tank and the commode was leaking, letting the water flow out while in use. The lawns are good and are quiet. The food is tasty, but u have very limted options. The only Indian breakfast which u get is Parathas & Aloo subji. U dont get anything else. The dinner options are also limited. The rooms are clean, but u can see black ants walking on the floor everytime making u feel insecure. The rooms are old fashioned and need immediate change in terms of look and feel, if it were to attract repeat customers.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden are quiet and secluded. Always take a super deluxe room.

A nice oasis in Jaipur, very friendly and helpful owners and comfy rooms. All in all, far better than the 'luxury' hotels we had in India...! The garden is fantastic to relax and come down from the exhaustion you get while traveling India, definitely the place I go back when I come back to Jaipur. The owners are extremely helpful and speak excellent English...

The over here in shahar palace was really great. its like stay in home. a nice lone and greenness in front of room. Discussions with Cornell saab was great. and stay looks very secure, piece full, relaxed if u are with partner, so it is great palace for couples. I will strongly recommend it for any couple. the is some things need to improve. Food cast is little bit inflated may be they are compensating a relative low cast of stay through it. Phone was only incoming but not was outgoing if you want any service. Room light was more of purely for romance and little bit for foreigner friendly as it were dark and red, there should be at least one white tubelightes also in room.
Overall the negative is very small front of +ve ones.. it was one of great stay for me....

Room Tip: Try to book AC room.. as it is warm weather in day time in Jaipur..

The rooms are a bit old school, but they're clean and functional and for the money, you couldn't ask for more. The AC works well, the food is delicious (ask for Indian breakfast) and the staff are awesome. The Colonel and his wife are charming and helpful. Make sure to ask the Colonel if he'll call his auto rickshaw driver for you. He'll take you around all day and keep you safely away from the touts and the crap-mongers.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

I have just finished visiting Jaipur for five days. I stayed at Shahar Palace and it was quite simply a joy to stay there. The weather wasn't particularly nice whilst I was there but fortunately I was able to relax in the wonderful setting of this well run family hotel. I had my own balcony which had excellent service from the kitchen downstairs. I had the Indian Special Thali almost every because it was so good and excellent value for money. The couple that run the hotel, Colonel Singh and his wife were both so friendly and always keen to help me with my travel plans. I also had the pleasure of meeting their son, Fateh, who was a really interesting and well traveled man, and again more than happy to give advice about the area.

I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are visiting Jaipur, definitely check in here.
