“Good place for a day trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

Interesting place to discover the historical aspects of Jaipur. The entire place will take at least 1 hour to tour and its worth it. There was lot of small shops inside the City Palace where local handicrafts and artwork are sold. Photography is restricted inside the Palace but the outside view is nothing less than spectacular. Well worth a visit!

“Interesting”

The tag line says it all - interesting.
Not a great deal to see inside, and the one place that is full of history, pictures, clothing etc is where photography is forbidden. If that means I have to buy a book to remind me, forget it!!

“Fabulous palace, poorly managed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

The city palace in Udaipur is an outstanding historical monument. However, the artefacts in the palace are poorly displayed and, in most cases, open to the elements. Obviously, this diminishes their life. Also, the management of large visitor numbers is unsatisfactory. There is no regulation of visitor entry so that viewing is both a learning and a pleasure. Maximising visitor throughput seems to be the objective. And the toilet facilities are grossly inadequate. We were guided to only 1 facility on the premises that was poorly maintained and the stench of ammonia pervaded the entire palace. For the price of the entry tickets, cameras, audio sets, etc. the Management can surely do better. Also, they might wish to consider simplifying the ticket arrangements. These are cumbersome and impractical - having a single, all-inclusive ticket is a much better arrangement than fragmented tickets with separate prices for entry into every nook and cranny of the palace. The Management should seriously consider professionalizing their services, as also the maintenance of the palace before this wonderful attraction in Udaipur starts crumbling like so many other places in India.

I loved the City Palace- i did the audio tour which was very interesting. Magnificent items on show. The courtyard with the four doors is breathtaking. Very enjoyable!
