Owner description: Made of red and pink sandstone, Jaipur's signature palace of unusual architecture is a stunning example of local artistry. The top of the Hawa Mahal offers an excellent view over the city.

Loved shopping at the hawa mahal market. Found a really old wooden camera like the one in the old movies - if you find them, get a picture clicked and they were only too happy to explain the whole process. I love everything optics, so it was a surprising treat.

Some buildings in the world are iconic by their architecture and facade, and Hawa Mahal with its multiple galleries in multistoreyed manner reaching skyward is gifted with this uniqueness.
Add to the comfort of being in the palpable market area, close to Jantar Mantar, a World Heritage Site, and with easy access into it, Hawa Mahal is a place where one can spend hours viewing and reviewing the effect of the sun on various landmarks of Jaipur, from the distant Jaigarh, Nahagarh, Amber forts to the City Palace and exhibits of Jantar Mantar next door. It is one place where if you get a perch and can watch the markets of Jaipur, one can forget the present and be transported into a distant past. It is meant to be a viewing gallery and it is so comfortable to get up there, except the final perches of its towering top, and is very secure and snug, that one can take it easy, sit and enjoy the breeze and views of the Royal City of Jaipur.
Fortunately the place is not scraped up, or carved up, or denigrated with any remark of eager visitors, and it appears well maintained. The fact that it was originally meant to be astride the main thoroughfare area, makes it easy to approach, with a road leading to its entrance at a perpendicular to its Main Facade. If one has mistakenly tried to enter from its main facade, there is a narrow corridor and a labyrinth that takes you to the main entrance. Buying a collective ticket helps beat the hassle of queueing up at the ticket counter.
Remember that this was built in the era when most buildings were single floor, where balconies were rare, and such towering view in the heart of a city was unheard of.
So enjoy the breeze and its splendid views...

The storefront is very beautiful, you can see from the street. There is no much on the inside, so if you are not in the mood for a 5 stores of escalators, do not bother going in.

A little tricky to get to but well worth the experience, the Hawa Mahal offers a series of wonderful views of Jaipur's old city.
