Owner description: Made of red and pink sandstone, Jaipur's signature palace of unusual architecture is a stunning example of local artistry. The top of the Hawa Mahal offers an excellent view over the city.

This is what comes to mind when you say the word Jaipur. Hawa Mahal is a great piece of architecture.

Built way back in 1799, The original intention of the Palace was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen. Hawa Mahal is a great photo stop.

I do not recommend going inside since its not much but just about popping your head out of different windows (and ther are over 900 windows) and climbing to the different levels to get the view of bustling Old Jaipur and taking the architecture in.

Suggest taking pictures from outside.

I only saw this from the outside - and that seemed to be what everybody else was doing. It is the old building where the Mogul's wives would sit at windows to view the various processions etc. without being seen. The building is very tall, but only one room deep. The shape is very like the crown of Lord Krishna. Many hawkers around, and there were two snake charmers with cobras at the side of the road. I took their photo - and immediately, they leapt up and demanded money (so be warned!).

Hawa Mahal is a palace on winds, the building has no foundations and has 953 windows. It was planned by the same architect who planned Jaipur. The temperature in palace is unbelievably low compared the temperature outside as hundreds of windows help in cross circulation. No wonder this was Jai Singhs favorite palace.

We talked to people and they said do not waste your money on the entrance. The most impressive aspect is the view from the street. Go across the street to the merchants on the roof to get a great view and picture.
