Not worth a visit! I went up to the monkey temple and found not much there, other than a decent view across Jaipur from the small temple itself. For the rest, it was incredibly run down with pigs and monkeys everywhere, most of which were sick or scrounging for food. The 'holy man' was hucking in the corner which was most unpleasant, and other than that, there's really not much to see after a long walk up and a long walk down. So give it a skip!

Walking up to the Monkey Temple you are greeted by many monkeys. As you climb the hill up the cobbled path so your views become better and better. Take your time to walk along the hill past the temple it is quite and peaceful. Sunsets are the best time. I walked for over an hour along the hill and found other incredible ancient ruins.

This was one of the most wonderful places I visited in India. Stunning architecture and the most charming and seemingly happy monkeys

The temple and surroundings are very beautiful and great to explore however the place is swarming with beggars and not too many monkeys but that may be unique to the day we visited.

If you wanna hang out with some monkeys and risk getting a communicable disease, this is probably the place to do it. Yeah, the walkway up to the temple is a bit run down and dirty (hello... you're in India.) And yeah, there were lots of pigs and the occasional cow. BUT the monkeys are pretty awesome. They're very friendly and occasionally a bit... assertive. I had to have a very stern talk with one of them to explain why he didn't get to have multiple peanuts why other monkeys hadn't had any yet. (I think I got through to him.)

And as for the kids at the bottom of the temple, my advice is this... talk to them, and have the one that's the most charming and has the biggest smile take you up the hill. We did just that and for all of 2 American dollars, we got to hang out with an incredibly funny kid (with a shockingly foul mouth) who wants to be a tour guide when he grows up. At the end of it, he was smiling and we were smiling and that's easily worth 2 bucks.

One of the biggest downsides was the ride TO the temple. The long road up the hill leading to the temple is, for lack of a better description, depressing. Tons of poverty and slums. It's a bit of a buzzkill, but waddayagonnado. Again, you're in India.
