“Good value stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2008

We stayed 2 nights here on our trip around India, and once again were bowled over by the lovely staff.

We arranged a pick up from the station and were glad that we had. We booked an executive suite and were a bit pd off when we checked in (rather late - a night porter type chap let us in) to find that there were two single beds (we are a married couple), and absolutely no view whatsoever. Having seen the other rooms on the website we really did get a CRUMMY room, and it was more expensive! So that was not good. I was going to moan and ask to be moved, but we were there too late really to do so, so we stayed put for the 2 nights and scraped the beds together. So my advice would be, be very careful when you book! If I was going to rate the room it would get a 2. Also the 'fully stocked mini bar' had a bottle of water in it, also not great.

However, moving on to the good bits, the pool was lovely and beautifully kept, the restaurant was nice and the staff delightful, it was great sitting outside on the swing chair thing in the evening with a nice drink watching the bats swooping down to have a drink in the pool. I should mention as well that there was no evening entertainment, the website had said that there could be. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and Mrs Singh booked us a great driver, who drove us everywhere in Jaipur for 2 days, we saw everything and then some! The best bits for me were the monkey temple, where we arrived at dawn, that was magical, and the elephant ride up to Amber (I know both of those were not actually in Jaipur but they were my favourite trips). We loved Jaipur itself, it looked like something out of a disney film!

So overall I have given the hotel a 4, because the staff were very nice, and it was a very good value stay, and I'm sure if I had moaned I could have moved rooms to one of the nicer ones.

Hotel Megh Niwas, Jaipur is a "Hotel with a Big Heart". We stayed there just for one night, on the 8th October, 2008, and were highly impressed by the ambience, the hospitality and the food quality( And Quantity as well..). Overall our Stay at Megh Niwas was a marvellous experience for us.

It is worth informing all that the checkout time for the hotel (like all the other hotels) was 1200 Hrs, but one of us had fallen sick, and the time for boarding the train was 1550 Hrs. However, instead of a professional approach, which ought to have been followed by the Hotel Administration, the Administrator of the Hotel, a very kind hearted lady, arranged for a room for him, and also helped him recover, by providing the needed medical help.....without insisting for any "Extra Amount" and this is why we call it "A Hotel With a Big Heart" .

The decor, upkeep, hospitality , ambience of this hotel is marvellous and we shall Stay with Megh Niwas for all times to come.....Cheers!!!!

We had come to Jaipur from Pushkar, and we sincerely regret not having stayed at Colonel's Camp at Pushkar, because our Stay at the Hotel Gulab Niwas, Pushkar....was HORRIBLE....

I've stayed here multiple times over the years, on my own and with my family This is a really fantastic place. It is hard to find such a nice place for such a reasonable price in touristy cities in North India. (For a similar place in Delhi, you would find yourself in some dump in Paharganj).

The owners are very kind and helpful. The staff are as well, though most of the guests wouldn't know it since I've noticed that they act as though the staff (apart from the owners) don't exist. (Apparently good manners are reserved for service staff in one's own country).

The rooms are simple, clean, and homey feeling. The location is very conveniently located; but as the hotel is set back from the street, it offers a bit of respite from the rest of Jaipur. The food is generally good, and is often cooked with much less oil than a lot of other places.

As with any hotel some of the extras (like room service or bottled water) can be a bit pricey, but this is hardly a complaint specific to Meghniwas. Some of the quibbles that other reviewers have had simply point to the fact that this is not a 5 star hotel with an army of highly-trained English-speaking staff. If you can't stand being outside of that kind of environment, then shell out the extra $200-$300 and stay at one of Jaipur's five stars. Otherwise, for the price one pays, this is a virtually unbeatable value.

This was not as nice as we'd hoped. Our train arrived in Jaipur quite late, and when we got to the hotel, we had a bit of difficulty finding someone to check us in. We had a difficult time because most of the staff that we saw that night spoke very little English or Hindi. Once we got to our room, we saw that it had two twin beds rather than a queen, as was clearly on our confirmation e-mail. The staff could not think of anything else to do but to push the beds together, so we spent the night trying to avoid the gap between the two. Once we thought we were set up, I commenced my usual thorough inspection of the bedding, and the bedspread had quite a strong odor. We called down, requested a new one, which arrived as smelly as the first. When we rejected the second, we asked the houskeeping representative when they'd last been washed; he had no idea, but he folded both and and put them in the armoire for the next guest. They did bring us two additional bedsheets, which were clean, to keep warm.

Unfortunately, we were hit that night with a stomach virus, which led to us spending most of our two days in Jaipur in the hotel. The hotel did arrange a doctor for us, who came to the room and set us up with medicine that was very effective.

We thought the manager was being very kind when she constantly kept sending us tea and asking her staff to run to the store for medicines and sodas for us, and we were happy to tip the staff for their help. However, when we checked out, we were hit with some unreasonably high service charges (which had not been mentioned) for all these errands.

  • Liked — The room itself (besides the bedding), was nice.
  • Disliked — The unavailability of clean bedclothes.

We only stayed at this hotel as the one we wanted, Jaz Villas, which is next door only had 2 rooms available & we needed 3. As it turned out we were very happy with the hotel. The rooms were very large and nicely decorated. I had a lovely room with balcony overlooking the pool. The gardens & pool area are beautiful. They were quiet and peacfull and great for swimming & topping up the tan. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rickshaws were alway outside the hotel so it is easy to get anywhere. There is a small supermarket a few doors away so great for bottled water etc. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the breakfast. It's buffet stayle and the food itself didn't look that great, especially compared to breakfasts we had in other hotels. It looked that bad I passed on breakfast completely. Apart from that I liked the hotel and would definately stay there again.

  • Liked — The lovely pool & gardens
  • Disliked — The breakfast

We arrived on the early train and although check-in was noon, the hotel owner allowed us into the room early around 8am after offering us breakfast. We had an excellent room, clean and tidy with a balcony overlooking the pool. We felt very safe and relaxed at this hotel which was run very efficiently by the owner. Excellent gardens front and back with a nice pool. Staff were lovely and when we left they lined up to say goodbye and thanked us for being such friendly guests. What a contrast to the awful Pushp Villa in Agra which unfortunately was our next destination.

  • Liked — Nicely furnished, very clean
  • Disliked — Nothing.

What a lovely heaven from the hectic and noisy Jaipur... Loved this hotel, feels very cozy. Food was nice and the pool and garden very welcoming. I loved the wifi access and the smiling staff.
Loved the marble floor and the nice spacious and homely room. It is very clean and well kept.
I enjoyed being there in the evenings after visiting Jaipur during the day... I don't know about other hotels in Jaipur but this was my favourite hotel during my India trip...
