“Amazing hotel but not great value”
Reviewed April 25, 2010

We stayed for 4 days. The hotel and our room were beautiful. It is a fabulous place and we would recommend it as a one off experience. Superficially the service is excellent - lots of bowing, door opening, putting napkins under your shoes in the room (?) etc. The food was excellent but very expensive. Nice pool but not enough sun loungers and loses the sun quite early. We are keen gym users and the best one can say is that this hotel doesn't really have a gym - not good enough at the price charged. Back to the service, the hotel are less helpful if you want help organising the basics e.g. a taxi, rather than using their overpriced hotel cars. The best example was when we left, they forgot to make the wake up call and had (grudgingly) ordered a taxi for us that turned out not to have enough room for us plus our luggage.

The Rambagh Palace, whatever I may say would probably not be enough.
The sheer size of the property and vastness of the lawns is incomparable to any other hotel considering this is right in the heart of the "Pink City" (Jaipur). The actual palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur is now converted into this hotel. Elaborate and eye-catching architecture, really resembles the era of the Maharajas. Since it wasn't built to be a hotel, no two rooms are exactly the same. Giving each a unique feel. Peacocks would wander around the gardens and thousands of birds would flock together.
The interiors are in true Maharaja style with luxury oozing out. Not ostentatious yet extremely charming. The service was impeccable, and the staff extremely courteous. They would even go out of the way to help. There was a slight discrepancy in our final bill and they just didn't bother arguing and instead knocked off the little amount.
The weather wasn't the best during April. It would get extremely hot during the afternoons. I would highly recommend traveling here when it's still a little cold maybe between November and March.
One aspect I felt needs improvement was the food. Even though I feel they predominantly cater to overseas clientele, the food just wasn't at par with the hotel in general. Especially the Indian/Mughlai cuisine, which was rather bland in taste.
Apart from this, there wasn't anything at all to complain about. It was pretty much just perfect.
I am definitely going to stay here the next time I am in Jaipur and I highly recommend it.

The pictures online don't give this place justice. It's simply breath taking. It's the perfect size so you don't feel like you are in a monstrous resort (I believe only about 80 rooms). The grounds are kept like the Maharajah still lives there. The rooms are stunning, and we were in the cheapest one they offer.

The service was amazing, as expected for the price you are paying.

I highly recommend the tour they offer nightly around the palace. They tell you some really interesting history of the place. It's pretty amazing.

Our ONLY gripe was it was a bit difficult to get cabs from the hotel (and you can't walk to the old city from there). We ended up just biting the bullet and using their transfer which was a bit overpriced.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place though!!

its a heritage hotel, so if yuu organize a convention there, you surely get a royal feel there. We organized a convention of Hutchison brand there, almost a gentry of 600 people were easily accomodated in the convention room, had a great food place, the food services were excellent.
several ad agency & literary conventions have been organized at this venue, it seems this is the most chosen hotel at Jaipur.
the delegates could also get to see various monuments of jaipur, so the visit can be made memorable. :)

If you prefer luxury, the Rambagh Palace is the way to go. They will treat you like royalty from the moment you arrive. This is a former palace converted into a hotel. Needless to say the establishment and grounds are gorgeous. The service is incredible (see royalty sentence above). The Rambagh Palace is not inexpensive, but if you like meticulous attention to detail and true luxury, go for it. It is also very romantic and ideal for couples.

This was my 4th stay at the Rambagh Palace over a period of 11 years. I have to say that this hotel just keeps getting better. We stayed here for 1 night in one of the new Historical Suites on the 3rd floor. This hotel is still one of my favorite hotels in the world, on a par with the best.

The hotel gave us an early check-in at 7am & an upgrade, both of which were tremendously appreciated. This is the kind of service that has engendered my loyalty over the years. The hotel was responsive & professional on email to our restaurant & car booking requests. Our suite was beautiful, with a lovely spacious sitting area, 2 bathrooms, a cozy bedroom which somehow encourages very deep restorative sleeping, & a pretty view overlooking the central gardens. The overall decor & feel was very luxurious. The staff checked us in in our room & sent welcome drinks at the same time; very well coordinated. The only (rather annoying) problem with our room was that the bath water never got hot enough, so we couldn't enjoy a bath. That was very disappointing. They also seem to have taken away the in-room bath menu using wonderful essential oils, which I had really enjoyed the last time I stayed.

The food in the main Indian restaurant was quite good, & the service was excellent. We also ate Indian breakfast & lunch on the outside patio. While the lunch was excellent - with delicious & authentic regional dishes - the breakfast was disappointing. I always remember the aloo parathas to have come with fresh homemade yogurt, & this time the yogurt seemed to have come from a tub, not creamy as with homemade yogurt. Very disappointing!

As for the service, most of the staff were extremely good & professional, starting with the airport representative who met us on arrival with our car, driver & staff member who accompanied us to the hotel. As with my last stay at year before, the one hiccup in the service was with the concierge desk. We were puzzled as to how the concierge was stumped when asked for a good place in town to purchase men's Indian clothing for a wedding & took 15 minutes checking things out with colleagues. Surely this is one of the most common questions they get?

Despite these issues, I still love this hotel & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as the ideal place to stay in Jaipur, as it has the luxury of the Rajvilas but with a real history behind it. The extremely genial & professional barmen at the Polo Lounge - though not the original one anymore - still fix excellent martinis. The pool area is nice, with a huge, beautifully constructed indoor pool & smaller but usable outdoor one. With the most recent round of upgrades, the hotel's rooms & facilities are now just as good as the old-world professional service that I always hope to continue to find here.

We stayed in many beautiful hotels during our 2-week trip to Northern India but this may have been the most spectacular. We were upgraded (without asking) to a magnificent historical suite. Every furnishing in the suite was a work of art but we did not feel as if we were in a museum. The grounds are extremely attractive, including the spas and pools, and the staff is extremely solicitous. We enjoyed visiting Steam, the railroad car bar, and wished we had had time to sample the flat-crust Italian pizza. A 2-night stay was not enough at this gorgeous hotel!
