I was was with a Bales Classic India Tour (9 people) which included two Heritage walking tours of Jaipur on Diwali Sat 2nd November. Our guides were excellent, informative, interesting, very knowledgable and passionate about preserving the architectural heritage of the city. Our walks included visits to two household where we were treated as honoured guests. On our night walk we celebrated Diwali with a family and let off fireworks with them on their rooftop!

This company and the guides are to be highly recommended.

It is a few weeks ago now since our bike ride in Jaipur but I still remember it as a highlight of our stay there. Travelling around India in the heat does not leave much energy or opportunity for physical exercise. I am usually not very keen on guided tours, however Virsat offers a wonderful selection of alternative tours.

Missing cycling while I away I opted for the new cycling tour around Jaipur. The booking with Vipul was easy enough, only need 24hours notice. We were given clear instructions on where to meet and timings. It was an early start to avoid the crazy traffic and Indian roads. We arrived at 7am, and were briefed on what the tour would involve- a 3/4 hour cycle up around the forts and hills of Jaipur. Mind this is not a sightseeing tour, more of a chance to do some exercise and take a break from the bustling madness of the bazaars. After being handed a large bottle of water we were each given mountain bikes in good condition and a helmet. The next few hours we spent cycling up in the quiet roads not far from Amber fort. This is not for the faint hearted, there is a steep continuous climb for half an hour. But once at the top the views are worth it.

The organisation was great, snacks were brought along and breakfast was provided at the top with yummy fruit cake. We ended the tour with some delicious street food- samosas and jalebi.

I would highly recommend Virsat Experiences, it was a great way to see a different side of Jaipur.

My friend and I did a walking tour with Aki late one afternoon. We were exhausted from sightseeing in the morning but we pushed on. This market tour and dinner at a private home was one of our favorite times on our two week visit to India. Aki told us many details about the different businesses in the local market. I don't think we would have ever ventured inside these winding streets without him. We visited a top enamel jewelry artisan in his home/shop. Finally, we headed to our dinner with a local couple who invited us into their kitchen to learn about Indian cooking. Mahdo and Alka were the most wonderful hosts! I highly recommend Virasat - their passion for Jaipur is clearly evident and a bit contagious!

After spending many days sightseeing in Delhi, Agra & Jaipur, seeing amazing forts and palaces and structures beyond compare (Taj Mahal), our family agreed that the heritage tour with Akshat Mathur was one of the highlights of the trip. Akshat was clear to inform us this was not a shopping trip, but a genuine peak into the real life behind the facade of the pink city. Through the backstreets he shared with us the rich history and culture of Jaipur, how the city was laid out and developed, and how families have been living and working in the same shops for generations. We toured the real marketplaces, not the tourist shops, learned of traditions and grew to understand and appreciate this city more deeply. Akshat is known and respected by the locals, so as his guests we were welcomed into shops and homes for an authentic experience.
Our family HIGHLY recommends the Heritage Tour by Virasat Journeys as a must do adventure while in Jaipur!

The heritage walk for me was an eye opener. It gave me various unknowing facts and figures about our very own walled city making this photo walk for me a walk to remember. Cheers to virasat experience for an amazing initiative..
