We enjoyed our walking tour in old Jaipur with Akshat Mathur very much, it was just what we had been looking for, diving into Japiur real life. cross the streets, etc. We can only recommend.

“walking tour of jaipur local markets”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

we did this as part of a tour of Jaipur and it was well worth it, ducking in and out of the side streets , looking at the clothing, jewellery and food sellers, no hard sell , just a taste of the vibrant streets of Jaipur with guides who know them well, would recommend this tour

“Great access to bazaars and havelis of Jaipur”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

My partner and I did two walks back-to-back with Akshat of Virasat Experiences - the temples and havelis walk and the bazaars and cuisine walk. We thoroughly enjoyed both them particularly as Akshat clearly knew his stuff about the walled city in Jaipur. It was through him that we could access parts of the bazaar - for instance, we got the opportunity to explore a number of different havelis, most of which are still private residences and which we would not have been able to enter without the benefit of the already existing relationships between Virasat and the owners. We also loved the fact that Virasat is looking to conserve and restore havelis that would otherwise be pulled down and are working with the communities to conserve their heritage. The walking tours certainly were a great introduction to Jaipur and we would happily recommend them - particularly as a starting point to an exploration of Jaipur. We also did walking tours with Virasat in Jodhpur and Udaipur. While these were good, the Jaipur guides had clearly more experience and more established relationships with the communities. We also had the best lassis we've ever had, on Akshat's walking tour! We still dream about them.

“Joke's On Me in Jaipur”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Knock knock? Who's there? A sucker is born every day. A sucker is born every day who? ME!

As an experienced traveler I kick myself for being suckered into what I thought would be an interesting tour of the old city of Jaipur followed by an incredible dinner in a refurbished Haveli. For 2750 INR one would expect that to be the case.

The tour started out well enough with our friendly guide who showed us several beautiful temples and two Havelis, the first being the courtyard of one that had seen better days and had an overwhelming stench of urine and sewage, and had trash strewn about, but that's not uncommon in the old city. The next was a beautifully redone Haveli that we were only able to view the facade from the street. For the price we paid for the tour I would have liked to have been able to have seen a little more of both to compare and contrast, as the guide said that part of our tour fee is given back to historical preservation of the old city. All in all the tour part of the evening was informative, but nothing one couldn't do on their own by walking the old city and feeling comfortable enough to interact with-the locals.
The dinner on the other hand was a joke and where I kick myself for being taken. For an additional 1500 INR, 28 dollars US, above the 1250 INR I had already paid for the tour, we were led through the courtyard of the third haveli an up a beautiful staircase to the roof terrace that was nothing more than plain concrete and plastic chairs. I then was led to sit with the family in a non descript room off the terrace to view their wedding albums, thinking there has to be more to this and when was I going to tour the beautifully redone home they showed me pictures of. That was not to be the case, we were then led back to the dimly lit terrace to eat an average meal buffet style, with no table to sit at as I had to put my plate in my lap to eat, very disappointing end to the night to say the least. For the less experienced traveler I would say the tour would be worthwhile, albeit overpriced. If considering the dinner portion DON'T, save your money and spend someplace more enjoyable.

We are sorry to know that YOU ALONG AND YOUR FRIENDS who has posted subsequent native reviews were not satisfied with the walking tour . We have conducted similar nature of walking tours of over 250 guest ,but have never have never received displeasure from our guests . We can understand that walking tours concept is not to everyone liking , as we try to showcase the living heritage of Jaipur beyond its touristic Monuments

We think there has been a serious misunderstanding and if you are not happy with the dinner , we are willing make FULL REIMBURSEMENT for the dinner
Although I completely agree VALUE FOR MONEY is a individual perception and we respect that . But accusing of cheating is too harsh , as you GROUP contacted us through our website which has complete information of the Walking tour and the tour price . As promised the tour guide took you to some lesser know parts include few temples and private Havelis , introduced the religious side of Jaipur and explained about the local trade and customs . In our opinion we made efforts to bring alive the aspects of local life of Jaipur citizens .

Our concept of Haveli dinner is to offer a genuine opportunity to visitors to interact with the host family and immerse with the local culture. Your host family were truly glad to share their glorious past and family pictures with your group and it indeed was a 250 years old house . We no way want to replicate the restaurant experience where the guest are surrounded by waiters and flashy interiors . This we believe you can have in any grand Heritage Hotels restaurant which Jaipur has to offer.

We try to put in our best of efforts to make our tour meaningful to our guest and hence are sorry to hear about your displeasure.

“Jaipuri Misadventure”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Tour: Fair. There seems to be little thought or care put into the content of the tour and one really only begins to scratch the surface of the city during the tour. The guide ignored several of questions and at times seemed uninterested in really providing us with a truer deeper understanding of the city. But as tours go it was okay. Could do with some better curating-- and really should be much longer especially for the EXORBITANT price we paid.

Dinner: TERRIBLE. DO NOT HAVE DINNER. REPEAT.

Also, and this is something I have been trying to figure out. Vipul and Akshet really do not seem passionate about Heritage or Jaipur or culture. If they were this tour would have been worlds better. There was no gleam in their eye for the built heritage of Jaipur and I felt really everything done was actually for money and not love of the city or it inhabitants.

This operation really needs to be reformed, fixed up, and imbued with some more love

DO NOT EAT DINNER

Thank you for your feedback . Our walking tours are an effort to show case the Jaipur city beyond tourist monuments . We agree that the old walled city is not the cleanest and facing neglect by the city municipal body.

As the " Temples & Havelis of Old Jaipur " walking tour suggested , you visited some historic mansions and temple with painting and other splendid architecture patters from the past .

We think the concept of Haveli Dinner was misunderstood by you .Where our emphasis is more on host family interaction and simple Indian cooked meal and not on grand atmosphere .
If you are not happy we are willing to REIMBURSE with the Haveli dinner cost as we respect your inflated expectations
