“Great Homestay”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

I was riding through Rajasthan last year and a friend suggested staying in Pratap Bhawan while in Jaipur. The rooms are large and loos are clean and well maintained. Itsjust like you are in a friends home and not a hotel/homestay. Centrally located yet is very quiet and with enough parking for your vehicle. Sadly we missed getting any Lal Maas but the Chicken Curry and the rest of the spread for dinner was super. The dishes did not need cleaning as we had wiped away every morsel that was served to us

Himanshu a wildlife photographer is a great host and has many stories and great photographs to show you. If you are a moto nut ask Himanshu to give his cousin a call and maybe you can go and check out Rajputata Custom Motorcycles garage and marvel at the creations.

Will i go back to Pratap Bhawan? Absolutely there is no choice in my mind of places to stay in Jaipur.

Room Tip: If you are a large family or more than two ask for the rooms on the first floor as they are larger a...

Being a single female traveller, the most important aspect which outranks everything else is safety, security, and an active mobile number that answers your call even at any given point of time!!! Thats precisely why i choose to stay at Pratap Bhawan, without battling an eyelid. Right from your arrival to your departure you feel welcomed!. the hosts are so gracious and courteous, right from the time you check in, you are greeted by an ever smiling caretaker who is simply superb! from making a simple tea to any exotic rajasthani dishes, you name it he will make it! The rooms are so airy and fresh, its literally a home away from home, not to forget the impeccably clean bathrooms with all modern amenities. I sighed a big relief the moment i found pratap bhawan, so now it goes like this : travelling to Jaipur means staying at Pratap Bhawan.... as simple as that!!!! Will be back Soon Himanshu!

We had an excellent stay at Pratap Bhawan. The host and hostess reminds you of Rajathani Traditional Hospitality which is a rarely seen these days. It would not be right if I do not mention the name of Madhav Singh who was attending us all through our stay. The food was simply superb ! Stay there n have lunch and dinner too.....

Wonderful Indian family B&B just beyond the busy city centre. The host and staff were very friendly & helpful. The rooms were clean & spacious. This B&B is particularly great for 2 couples or a family group of 4 as the two first floor rooms open to a common living/breakfast area, so it feels like a private suite. The house cook prepared dinner on our first night which was the best, freshest, most tasty meal we had during our whole stay in India. Himanshu (the owner) has excellent English and is a wildlife photography/tour expert and is very happy to chat about anything. A really good place either to start your trip or stay at any time.

For all those who obsess over cleanliness, leave ur obsessions back home when you come to stay at Pratap Bhawan. Beautiful, spacious, well lit and really comfortable rooms.
Traditional indian home cooked food, absolutely worth the price you pay for. The host was generous enough to take me around to the local bazaar.
I would recommend this place for its quiet and peace even though it stands in the heart of the city. Not to miss, the earlier reviews did prove helpfull, i tried the absolutely scrumptious 'laal maas' and my trip with the host to the bazaar ended with up with conversations about nature and forests and wildlife, the results of which are all the way down to the wall's of Pratap Bhawan.

Our stay at Pratap Bhawan was indeed the highlight of our visit to Jaipur. The rooms were fabulously done up, extremely neat and tidy and very very comfortable. After a long, tiring day out sight-seeing & shopping, it was a delight to return to our lovely room at the hotel!

The staff was courteous, soft-spoken and very efficient. Delicious home-cooked meals were served on request and we thoroughly enjoyed the local flavors of Rajasthan.

All in all our stay at Pratap Bhawan was reminiscent of a royal Rajasthani household that takes immense pride in the age-old Indian tradition of 'Atithi Devo Bhava'!!

Thank you Himanshu! We will be back soon :))

(It may be worth mentioning here that Himanshu Rathore, our host, is a wildlife photographer of repute. Pictures of tigers and other animals adorn the walls of the hotel, giving the guests a peek into the wondrous wildlife of Rajasthan!!)

Today's Pratap Bhawan stands on Himanshu Rathore's ancestral land and is located in Jaipur's enviable and poshest colony. Himanshu belongs to an erstwhile jageer called Nimaj and his father served in the army. He has years of experience as a naturalist and even today is affiliated closely with biggest wildlife centers like Bandhavgarh. His passion for the wild and wildlife photography is proudly presented on the walls of the homestead. While Himanshu hails from Marwar his gracious wife, Deepti belongs to Mewar. His keen interest in meeting new people and socializing were the driving force behind him starting the venture in 2010. Pratap Bhawan was built in 1980 and therefore has a fine blend of modern but traditional styles. Credit to this is duly given to Himanshu's wife, Deepti. Not only does she have a natural sense of hospitality as her family owns a Palace hotel but she is a professional interior designer to boot. Her class and taste are evident throughout the home's effortless elegance. All the 4 bedrooms of Pratap Bhawan are soothing in colors but with a burst of richness, which make them charming and very true to Rajasthani culture. All bedrooms come with large and impeccable en suite bathrooms, beds equipped with luxury spring matresses and they are air conditioned. The family's personal temple is for private use only but guests can come and view it while giving it utmost respect. The lush garden boasts of a vibrant and cozy breakfast nook. A big open terrace with its swing invites people to open up a book before enjoying dinner.Other than sightseeing across Jaipur, guests can enjoy an experience exclusive to Pratap Bhawan. As Himanshu works avidly as a freelance tour leader he is takes people on specialized and unique wildlife and photography tours. He worked for three years with a renowned wildlife safari company and as a naturalist. This ensures that tours conducted by Himanshu for his own guests are of an incomparable standard. Other than this Himanshu is also a passionate cook and would be open to providing guests with cooking lessons on Rajasthani cuisine. On special request, he can also conduct bird walks around Jaipur, arrange for ayurvedic massages and even yoga sessions at home. Deepti is also a masterful Rangoli maker and guests can learn how to create those colorful designs from her. ... more   less
