This boutique hotel is the ancestral home of Admiral Madhvendra Singh (Rtrd) of the Indian Navy.

Admiral Singh has converted the home to a nineteen room boutique hotel while he lives next door in a new "modern" house. As a result and also because Admiral Singh is the owner-operator he is always available to the guests and makes sure everything is "ship shape". The rooms are priced competitively.

Admiral Singh greets everyone by first name at breakfast (included in the price) which runs from 7.30 am to 9.30 am. Breakfast consisted of serial, toast, jams, eggs as well as an Indian staple. The optional dinner was a well prepared rice and curry meal.

My room on the ground floor overlooked the swimming pool in the large backyard. As Jaipur was under a very cold spell during the third week of January 2014, the Admiral warned that it was too cold even for Canadians like me to use the swimming pool !!!!

On one side of the large well maintained front law is a basketball court for anyone inclined to shoot a few hoops!

Admiral Singh sent me detailed directions on how to hire a taxi and what I should expect to pay from the airport to his hotel. The Admiral also gave me lots of advice about places I should visit while I was in Jaipur and restaurants I could have supper at.

The staff could communicate in fairly good English. They were always willing to arrange a taxi for longer journeys or summon a "Tuk Tuk" for shorter ones.

Free internet was available in the public areas.

Laundry handed in the morning was washed, ironed/folded and returned by evening.

I have already recommended this boutique hotel and will stay there again when I return to Jaipur in 2015.

Room Tip: This is a boutique hotel so all the rooms are great. Some have four-poster beds!

I stayed in this hotel from 22nd to 24 December 2013. The hotel is very centrally located and all the basic facilities like ATMs, restaurants, movie houses, malls, ice cream parlors are very much within a radius of walk-able distance of .5 km.

The rooms were good, clean and neat. Owing to cold, the rooms are also equipped with heaters, which keeps the room comprehensively warm, The staff was very helpful and the owner of the hotel Admiral Madhvendraji was also very courteous and very helpful. He comes down in person every morning on the b/fast table to greet the families staying in the hotel and knowing about their experiences. He guided us about the entire Jaipur city which really helped me in touring. The courtyard and the backyard of the hotel is also very spacious with a swimming pool in the backyard.

As a point of suggestion, though the breakfast I had for these 3 days was good, I would like the management to explore some more varieties in the areas of breakfast like inclusion South Indians foods as well.

But Overall it was a very good experience!!

Room Tip: Really worth experiencing

No regrets about staying here. We stayed two nights (in order to give us a whole day in Jaipur).

The Admiral is on site and takes a personal interest in the property. The fact that he is ex-Navy reflects in the running of the establishment (as I can appreciate as my father is ex-Navy as well).

The rooms are big and comfortable, food very good (we had dinner here as well). The no-tipping policy takes the pressure of guests (instead, you can tip one lump sum at the end and this is shared among all the staff).

It was winter so we didn't get to use the pool, but the grounds are big and very peaceful.

Room Tip: We used the deluxe room on the main floor just off the dining room.

Stayed at Devi Niketan with family (03 members) in end Dec 13. The place has a great ambiance and rooms are spacious. 24-hrs hot water in bathroom and electric tea kettle in room to make tea/ coffee. Room heater provided by staff at no extra charge view prevailing cold weather. Staff very courteous. Place very clean. Breakfast is buffet and had a mixture of Indian and Western dishes - poha, puri-bhaji, wheat flakes, fruit, fruit juice, milk etc. Enjoyed our stay.

A wonderfull hotel for a family rest, not big, quiet, comfortable. The staff was very attentive, the food was good, without many spicies for us (but you can take it separately)
The owner, the admiral, is a man with very high hospitality. The two days tour organized by him for sightseeing of Jaipur was unforgettable.

A really disappointing stay at Devi Niketan marked by sullen and rude staff and very poor maintenance.
They pulled the old trick of not cleaning our room because we didn't hand the key in.
The pool was dirty with damaged tiles and the garden looks nothing like the 'management photos'. The patio looks like a bus shelter.
Food was disappointing.
The Admiral takes a nap about 3 times a day and while he's away, nothing gets done.

Only one member of staff seemed to care - the others were downright rude.

Have a look at pics - they don't lie. Especially the pic of the bottles they put your water in!

Avoid!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your observations.

“Damage control” measures taken. Most repairs / renovations completed. Others being progressed.

Pleased to report that the Admiral’s “Flagship has weathered the storm and continues to float, to move and to fight” – and that Devi Niketan continues to receive and welcome guests from India and across the oceans.

Devi Niketan is a great place to stay. We had gone as a group of 10 family members (with ages ranging from 13yrs to 78yrs!), and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The haveli itself was beautiful, with spacious rooms done up in traditional decor, but with all modern amenities. The common room/lounge is cosy with lots of books available for reading. The staff were quite attentive to our requirements. Food was good too. There is a small swimming at the back too.
