This was one of my favourite hotel stays ever. We arrived here straight from Varanasi with its dirt, frenzy and masses. The contrast could not have been bigger. The Samode bagh offered beauty, tranquillity and nothing but the sounds of birds.

The cottages are comfortable, the tented roofs pretty. There are two gardens, one where the guests stay and one for wandering and contemplation, separated by the small palace and pool. Both are beautiful and well taken care of.

Most of the time there were only a few other guests so this added to the peacefulness. It may be different when the place is fully booked. However, I suspect the place is mostly used for overnighters and people who use the place as a base for day trips.

Staff went out of there way- serving meals wherever we liked, including lunch twice in the main garden, which was a joy. They also arranged a car to take us to Samode town and Palace, which was complimentary.

Our 4 year old daughter had a blast- there is no real playground but lots of stuff to climb on, plenty of space to run around (and a big wall so no risk of her escaping) and free pony rides.

Two caveats: food is adequate, but not outstanding. The dining room is kind of dour and dark- have meals outdoors as much as possible.

And transfers arranged through the hotel are overpriced, as they usually are at these kind of places. The hotel offers a transfer to Jaipur for 3100 INR- if you arrange it yourself through a Jaipur-based operator you will pay half of that.

4 of us used Samode Bagh as a base for exploring Jaipur..

At first, on the drive from Jaipur you think why have I put myself through a 2+ hour drive when I could have stayed in town? Then you are there, the stress of the world is gone and you begin to relax. The huts are not really tents but solid walled huts with a tented roof... You wake to the call of the peacocks and you enjoy the serenity of nature...ie no car horns etc etc.. Food is good but watch out, even if you ask for mild...the Indian food still had a bite for our visitors. Driving in and out of Jaipur adds a new dimension for the trip..through little villages and farms.. worth the hassle of the long drive.

This is a very peaceful place to spend a couple of days. The rooms are beautiful and great fun while the staff are very smiley and attentive. The only downer came right at the end when they arranged our car back to Jaipur. The cost was double what we paid for the same trip to get here. They had clearly marked it up and it felt like they were ripping us off. It left a bad taste in the mouth.

What a beautiful place, the tented accomodation, the stunning grounds, lovely food, lunch on the lawn, the fountains everything was perfect. When we arrived we walked through an archway of falling Petals, a delightful start to a 2 night stay on our Travelsphere tour of Beyond the Golden Triangle.
Watched a Folk show sitting beside a Bonfire under a full Moon, was magical. During the day there was a chance to have a Camel ride through the local village.
10 out of 10 for this Hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, wifi is a bit iffy, but who really needs it in this Oasis?

we went there in 2011... stayed there for a couple of nights!

the tents/rooms are in great shape, right from the almirahs to the bathrooms and the cleanliness in general!

the dining area/restaurant is nice.. the food was yummy!!

the gardens offered the kids a huge space to play in!! they loved it! the evening tea that they offer with cookies and cakes was great..

we even went to see the samode palace.. it was nice as well!

overall a great stay, would definitely recommend! :)

When we arrived and were shown to the tents and dining area I was slightly underwhelmed. That part of the garden is a bit scrubby looking, and the dining area is ugly. The tents (actually cnvas-clad houses, but beautiful nonetheless) have all the comforts needed, including lovely bathrooms.
When we went up to the pool though and entered the main gardens, I was stunned! The main gardens are extremely beautiful, and if you ask nicely they will light them up at night and switch on all the fountains.

Room Tip: The rooms are all the same.

Tents are in need of refurbishment.....monsoon rain marks stain the canopies on the outside, food is not great, ingratiating staff are a mimicry of the American tourist they come across - including the accent....this could be a gem find, but is a bad buy at the price.
