Krishna Palace
Ranked #75 of 392 Hotels in Jaipur
Reviewed January 17, 2010

We stayed three nights at the Krishna Palace in Jaipur. We got off to a bad start with the owner – when we arrived we rang from the train station as instructed in his e-mail to get picked up and he said that we were suppose to have arrived at 6am in the morning. We were traveling from Agra by train and had told him, by e-mail, that we were leaving Agra at 6am and arriving in Jaipur at 11am. He yelled at my husband on the phone and told us to arrange our own way to the hotel. When we arrived, he insisted we were wrong and made us pull up the e-mail and prove what we were saying (which we did). He then went into apology mode when it turned out we were right and said he would give us a better room that what we had booked. We paid 1,200 rupees for a double with private bathroom. The room we got had air-conditioning but no TV. The room was huge as was the bed and very well decorated but it looks like they are still renovating the rooms as they were not completely finished. They had a lovely garden restaurant where we had breakfast and a dinner. The service was extremely slow (average 45 minutes even if you ordered toast) but the food was very good and usually worth the wait at dinner time. They offered one PC to use the internet and they also had wireless internet – it was meant to be 100 rupee a day but because they have to give you the password, they wanted us to pay for the three days we stayed. We negotiated this down to 200 for the three days. The hotel is a little way out of town in a nice residential area but there are some shops a five minute walk down the street too buy groceries and rickshaws that will take you into town for 50 rupees. We also had another run in about the management over our washing – it came back one sock short and they immediately went on the defensive saying we only gave them one sock (eventhough they charged us for washing a pair). We asked them to check, and guess what, they had our sock. No apology this time though. I still would recommend staying here.

We booked this place at the last minute after a change of plans, so weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! Our room was huge, with basically two walls of windows and a four poster bed. It was very clean and well decorated and amazing for the price. The whole place had a relaxed atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The garden restaurant was lovely, a nice place to spend time and quiet after the noise etc of Jaipur. I only stayed here one night but would happily have spent several nights here.

Although the location of the Krishna Palace is a 40RS ride away from the city centre, it is located very close to the railway station. We arrived late at night in November 2009 and had a very warm welcome by the host. Our room was spacious and clean. There are beautifully decorated rooms in the first floor which the owner proudly showed us. Beside the warm service of this family run guest house the beautiful garden is absolutely one of the amenities. The most relaxing place we had in Rajasthan.

Seems like the Lonely Planet guy had a bad day when he reviewed this place for the newest India edition- this place is one of those where you can safely send your grandma to. Highly recommended, really. Start missing this place while I'm writing this...

We had an incredible stay here. The owner is a very friendly, helpful and kind man. The room was amazing-totally spotless, beautifully furnished, comfortable beds, clean sheets and towels, amazing shower and bathroom. The food was delicious, and was a real treat to eat in the amazingly manicured garden. You could not beat this hotel for value for money and would highly recommend it.

The staff was great here - friendly and helpful. Our room was such a wonderful change from the tiny, cheerless rooms of our hotels in Agra and New Delhi. Our room was large with a comfortable bed and a big warm bed spread. The wifi internet worked well in our room and only cost 100 rupees a day to use. It tends to get turned off at night because they shut down the computer by turning the whole power strip off (which not only powers the computer but also the router). When we wanted to stay up and use it we had to convince them to just flip the power strip back on so the router got power. They had hot water. Room service was excellent, even if the food wasn't the greatest in India. It was still decent though. The hotel itself is an attractive building with a grassy front lawn set with tables and chairs. It was a very nice place to sit and enjoy the sun shine. It was usually nice and quiet at night. The only thing I'd say to watch out for is the tuk-tuk (or auto-rickshaw) drivers that wait for people down the road to the east. They all seem to be in cahoots and after befriending us we ended up in a gem shop and had the good old Indian “Gem Scam” pulled on us. So be wary of their friendliness. We found that we could get good honest tuk-tuks by going west to the big road and flagging them down there. Otherwise I loved this hotel!
