“Way, Way overated and over priced”
Reviewed December 22, 2009

We spent three days in Mumbai at the Taj and visited three restaurants in the Hotel. The Zodiac being the last one. The free Indian "champagne" was a nice early touch. The menu is french with the appetizers at about £20 or $30 while the entrees at around £35. The execution of the food was poor. The scallops were under seasoned and some of the taste combinations questionable. My main course - Vension was minscule, overcooked while the vegetable Accompaniment basic and somewhat lack lustre. Feeling still hungry we looked at the desert menu but declined as they were priced at £20 and based on the previous two courses were were not certain that this would be a good investment. The service was good. I cannot see how this restaurant can justify the price compared to the quality of the execution.

“Dine with the gods”
Reviewed February 25, 2009

Zodiac Grill is the epitome of seven course luxurious ’evenings’( I cannot call it a meal because it is not). Comparable even to world standards. If you want to make a evening to remember head there without any apprehensions. They will gratify your taste buds, surrender to your whims and fancies and make you feel party to the royal buffet.

The restaurant’s theme is on the zodiac signs as suggested by the name. There is a zodiac galaxy made on the ceiling which makes you feel you are in a planetarium. They change the menu every zodiac month i.e. on the 21st or the 22nd of every month.

The food is extremely well presented. It is more a feast to the eyes than the tongue. Their drama like presentation makes you await the next course. Contrary to common belief there is no problem for vegetarians and food is more than enough to fill your stomach although the portions are small. There are seven courses starting from soup /salad to palate cleansers( like sorbet) to pasta/rice and desserts. Accompanied with a bottle of a very fine bubbly you feel you are ‘dining with the gods’. The signature cheese soufflé is nice but not a great as hyped. In case you want to splurge then they add the last two courses. There is a mélange of many cheese which for a cheese aficionado is a delight. The snake coffee is a must-see! Also a must drink…tastes good looks better. You might feel you are at the opera at some point in time.

Impeccable service with almost one waiter per head. The waiters are very motherly to the regulars taking care of their choices and food patterns. Soothing pianist at the front of the restaurant completes the whole setting. Perfect for a romantic evening or when you want to play host to a formal dinner with business associates/family.

“Not That Great--Overrated”
Reviewed November 9, 2008

Just got back from dining at Zodiac Grill and I have to say that I was disappointed in my meal. While the service was impeccable, the food itself was nothing special. The presentation of the food was lovely, but it was all lacking flavor. My yellowfin tuna appetizer actually had flavor--but not a very good one. It was way too "fishy" tasting, and high-quality tuna should not have that fishy taste to it. My seared scallops entree was overcooked as was my husband's tiger prawns entree. Maybe they just don't do a very good job with seafood. But for the price we shelled out for this meal, it all left a very bad taste in my mouth. I was much more pleased with my tasty $15 pizza at Trattoria and my $5 sandwich from Indigo Deli. But if you are interested in a fine dining meal, save your $$$ and go to Khyber instead--great service, ambience, and food (and lots of it), and a quarter of the price of this place.
