“A marvelous feat of restoration”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

The erstwhile Victoria & Albert Museum built during the British era and rechristened the Bhau Daji Lad Museum is marvelous. Restored just a few years ago by architect Vikas Dilawar, this museum is a phenomenal effort to bring the focus strongly towards the rich Indian culture and heritage that has been ignored for so many years. They have also set up gallery spaces on the first floor for contemporary art which is ever-changing, and perfectly juxtaposes the historic artifacts that the museum houses. You are allowed to take pictures with your cellphone but no cameras and flash photography is allowed here. Recommend visiting at least once.

“Dr Bau Dadji Lad Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2014

This museum is a gem ! Its interiors merit a visit, they are exquisite! The museum has been beautifully restored. A job very well done. I would encourage visitors to Mumbai to include this in their sightseeing musts. The exhibits are one of a kind, handcrafted items which we in the world of crafts would love to see revived today. A great experience.

“Great place, uneducated staff, big cameras not allowed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

This is one of the nice museums to visit in Mumbai. It is located inside the premises of Jeejamata Udyan or famously known as Rani Bagh (Mumbai Zoo).
A lot of historically artifacts you will find here including maps of old Bombay and surrounding areas. You will also find a lot of miniature models of villages and how farming communities looked like in old Bombay.
The ticket rates are quite cheap for such a well kept place and the interior of the place is also very good.
Sadly, they did not allow me to take pictures from DSLR since they mentioned that professional cameras are not allowed, had I taken a smaller canon G10 which is also a professional camera they would not have had a problem since size matters. They mentioned that you can take pictures with your mobile camera which is a bit of a stupidity since if pictures are allowed then what's the difference between different cameras. I guess it comes down to lack of education and training of staff, staff should be present to explain the different areas, artifacts rather than being rude to the public and whinge about cameras.
