“Noisy & Uncomfortable”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

I stayed in the Regency Inn on the back of a 12 hour train from Goa. I was happy to get my head down here for one night and then move on to other areas of Mumbai.

In general is cool for a traveller, it took me back to my backpacking routes a little. The rooms are ok, but not very clean apart from a decent lick of paint. The noise is pretty harsh from the main causeway, and the beds are rock hard with not much of a pillow.

Apart from that the staff are really kind and helpful, and the location is spot on. It is located right in heart of Coloba, close to restaurants, bars & the hussle and bussle of the city.

If your on a tight budget, go for it. If your looking for a bit extra, your own bathroom and a decent bed, look elsewhere!

Great location within a short distance of the top end of colaba causeway. For the casual traveller this is a great place to start exploring mumbai from. A fantastic range of places to eat that will challenge your decision making - which one first?

It is noisy outside and one room hadnt had the spaces around the windows sealed for noise.

Friendly, helpful staff.

Wifi reaches most rooms on the reception floor, where it is free to use, but they dont mention that.

A group of 4 of us stayed in two rooms here. We really liked it. We were just getting into the swing of India and the rooms we had overlooked the street below. We just sat up there drinking beers (from room service) and watching the street life.

Good internet. Cool location. Good safe food. The staff were really helpful. They sleep on the floor outside the room! Indian!

India requires a sense of humour we think, the things you usually find annoying - like dogs barking all night - become just part of it all. Same with the water situation, which was usually fine

Our valuables were safe in our rooms, though we hid some money in a light fixture and forgot about it, resulting in a near accidental money fire arson of said hotel.

A word of warning!!! We arranged a car to drive us to Goa thru the hotel, and though we are still alive, it's a Christmas miracle.

Would definitely stay there again though, can't wait!

Hotel prices in Mumbai are a general headache. The hotels come with Scandinavian price tags, but deliver much less. That said, I guess this small hotel that offers spacious standard rooms at Rs 3500 (€ 64) is just as good as you get with that price in Mumbai.

The rooms are quite clean and freshly painted, hot water works (though it is not easy to get the right temperature), the rooms have AC, and the usual hotel services are available. The location is conveniently central just off Colaba causeway, near the Gateway of India.

The location is however also a very noisy one. Both the causeway and the road MG Marg have plenty of traffic (horns all the time!) and activity also during the night, and the windows do not hold that noise away. There are also plenty of stray dogs living on the street - while these were no problem during the day, they barked every night during early hours so that we woke to them.

Moreover, € 90 disappeared from my shirt pocket hanging on the closet in the room. I admit that was not a great hide, but I also dislike the fact that someone had gone through my stuff even surficially as he/she had found it. I informed the manager, but he took it more like an offense, and only thing he said was that nothing like that had happened during the 20 years he had worked there. Well, I wish it didn't happen this time either, but it did. He did not even regret that, which I think was rude. Otherwise, the place felt safe. If you go there, keep your valuables with you or hide them better (our better hides were untouched). The hotel does not have a safe.

The only difference between the deluxe room and the ordinary one is the size. The ordinary is big enough, so stick with it unless you are 3 travellers in the same room. The deluxe room is also very much exposed to the street noise.

Beware that when you book the hotel through their webpage they charge the whole sum from your credit card right away.
