Bandra is ground zero for Bollywood chic, and Le Sutra smacks of all the artsy playfulness that its location deserves. Situated in a neighborhood that is a real party scene for young Indians with newfound wealth, Le Sutra is just a few blocks from the waterfront where you can walk the promenade along the Arabian Sea. If paying a fortune for a posh hotel dripping with tourists near the Gateway of India is not your thing – and if you are reading this review, then it most certainly is not – then consider a stay in this more interesting spot.
The bed of my Maya room disappointed as it was merely a single mattress on the floor, but the rest of the room was stylish enough to compensate for it. And in the end, what matters is the kind of rest that you have after the hustle and bustle of a day in Mumbai. So as long as you bring earplugs and set the overhead fan to a busy whirl, you’ll sleep just fine.
When the plumbing conked out in my room it took a few hours to provide me with a new one, which hadn’t exactly been cleaned from the guest before. But remember, this is India, and Le Sutra has to be respected for giving it such a solid try.
Elect for an Indian breakfast and ignore the “English-style eggs,” settling in for an early morning burn. It’s a pity that your masala chai is accompanied by Western music blaring obnoxiously right in the heart of the Hindi film industry, but Le Sutra isn’t the first to make this mistake.
Only a few kilometers away my Indian friends snuck me into one of the smaller Bollywood studios, where I was able to watch a set being built and a famous character actor engaging with his fans. Shortly after, we ran into a film crew near the sea that was just about to wrap up. The giant cables and cameras reminded me of living in Los Angeles, and I couldn’t help but smile at the thought that Bollywood has long been the largest film industry in the world. Despite its rough patches, Le Sutra lives up to its label.

- Le Sutra is the thread that blends aesthetics, hospitality and mind space…effortlessly. Interestingly, Le Sutra is the only Hotel in the world based on the Indian philosophy and narrated through contemporary art! The hotel wins admiration for the intricately crafted inlays and artifacts, uncompromising comfort, its living-up-to-the-hype restaurants (Out of the Blue, Olive) and the fabulous location (Bandra is touted as the queen of suburbs of Mumbai). With 14 uniquely individually-themed Indian Art rooms at Le Sutra and 8 comfortably stylish apartments at Sutra D’Onyx, the guests are literally spoilt for choice. Our client base consists of 40% foreign internationals who find the exciting packages such as Senorita (single lady), the Weekend special (it doesn’t get lower than this), the Celebrations (they make it unique) and the Experience (adored by couples) really difficult to resist. Our Yoga and Art tour packages have further enhanced the Indian Art image of the Hotel. Every guest is pampered to the core and the surprise room-theme-based gift on check-out is an absolute clincher! Le Sutra indeed has a unique product to offer to their guests, who are often heard stating that the pampering offered at Le Sutra, Mumbai, is grossly missed by them when they go visiting other locations in India.
