“Will not recommend this place”
Reviewed June 22, 2010

The best part about Orritel West is its location - at the heart of Andheri, close to malls, restaurants and shops. The access road to the hotel however is terrible, infested with stray dogs.

My room was like a dungeon with little ventilation. Overall cleanliness and hygiene left much to be desired. The bed was not very comfortable. The staff and service were OK - nothing special. I have to say that the food was dreadful. Luckily there were several other restaurants nearby - so I survived.

Even for a budget hotel, Orritel West lacks basic amenities and services. I am sure there are several better options in this area of Mumbai, and I suggest you explore them instead.

I was visiting India in Dec 2008 on a business trip and had a couple of days in Mumbai, I stayed at Hotel Orritel West for 3 nights. It is a small, no frills hotel. My stay was great and the staff went out of their way to make me comfortable, they were friendly and courteous.

Room:
The room was nice and clean, most of the common amenities were present such as refrigerator, tv, cable, phone, airconditioning, internet access, safe etc.

Food:
The food at the hotel was decent, I would typically have the complimentary breakfast in the hotel or order room service. There were also a lot of restaurants near by, so there is a lot of choice. I would also recommend Mainland China (couple of blocks away) if you are in mood for chinese and looking for a good dinner restaurant.

Internet:
I had some trouble using the internet connection (probably my laptop), the staff loaned me a laptop adapter so I was able to connect.

Location:
This hotel is on a quiet street, a couple of blocks off New Link Road, which has a number of malls, restaurants and clubs, so enough to do if you have some time to kill.

Traffic in Mumbai is pretty bad, so if you are planning to commute please budget extra time.

the approach road itself did not exist . i had to ask at least 10 times before i reached the place.
the hotel was dark and dingy and smelt like nothing before.

it was the worst hotel that i have ever stayed in. the only good bit was that the staff were really helpful even though there was only 1 person manning the counter.

they went out of their way to help but nothing couldbe done about the ghastly rooms or the interiors.

the food was lousy and there was nothing good about the place.
so avoid

This hotel was all that was left at 2 days notice. I had 3 nights there. My biggest issue was the 2 1/4 hour city to hotel and 1 1/2 hour hotel to city trip. So my first recommendation is only book the hotel if it is very close to where you are working. I wouldn’t call it close to the airport either. That can take an hour if the traffic is bad.

The hotel is still very new and clean, but my opinion on it has changed since reading the other 2 reviews. I had hoped that this hotel was just opening and was a little rough around the edges. But it seems like its one-two years old and nothing is going to change.

Good points:
----
Air con worked (was a little noisy but you can turn it to just fan mode for a quiet sleep)
No traffic noise – you can even hear birds in the morning.
Nice design – windows you can sit in
Well lit rooms
Clean bed – a little hard but they seem to like a firm mattress in India.

Bad points:
----
Electrical cables hanging out of the walls
When ordering breakfast, I assumed that bread, butter, and jam was hinglish for toast & jam. What I got was something a school kid would take for lunch. They even managed to get cornflakes wrong – strawberry flavoured cornflakes?
Internet never worked (yes, yes, someone will be coming tomorrow to fix it – 3 days in a row).
The architect had designed a beautiful courtyard setting with an indoor dinning area, surrounded by glass. Unfortunately, these glass doors have cracks around them which let mosquitoes in. If you have breakfast at 7:30am (earliest available time) you will see a ridiculous number of mosquitoes in the dinning/foyer area and copious amounts of bug spray being used. AVOID eating there at all costs!
Exceptionally loud and very annoying “lift arriving” noise. They have replaced a traditional “ding” with the musical device used on some cars for reversing. I wasn’t near the lifts, but at 4am, you don’t want to hear the equivalent of a really bad mobile ring tone.
No hot water the first night.

If you just want a bed, are self sufficient and are working close by, it’s okay. Business travelers should look else where.

STAY AWAY. I read a review posted by another member and too bad i listened to him.
I am currently in the hotel paying $100 US per night. I have changed my room already 3 times. First room AC didint work, internet didnt work. Second room the light didnt work. This room still smells like hell after i finished 3 air freshners. Any where else in the world this should be a $20 Motel.
Food is ok but not good. There is internet (when it works) it comes and goes all the time.
The area is HORRIBLE. It is situated in side streets and is about a 5 minute walk to the main street. On both sides are building apartments in construction and the noise starts at 7 am and goes on till 7 pm.
By the way you can not make any long distance calls, not even in India. What is that? I had to go buy a prepaid cell phone
I will post photos once i get home.

I stayed at Hotel Orritel West in early April. I was travelling to Mumbai on business and was looking for a hotel close to the airport. The hotel is reasonable priced and staff are courteous and helpful. The hotel seems to have completed earlier this year so everything is still brand new. I stayed in a deluxe room. The rooms are decent size and well decorated. The staff organized some trips for me on the weekend. I had some trouble with the airport transfer which I tried to book directly, I suggest you book airport transfer with the hotel or approach the travel desk at the airport terminal.
