“Very nice experience”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

I stayed here and must say that I enjoyed my stay in every respect. Was in Mumbai for 3 nights. Firstly the location in South Mumbai. This is the older part of Mumbai. Very well located to all the good shopping and a few tourist parts of old Mumbai. The accommodation was superb. Stayed in a large spacious room. They also have a choice of smaller rooms. I was shown the lifestyle suite by the staff- 2 of them actually. Wonderfully themed rooms. Delightful. I enjoyed all the areas of the hotel. The staff were very good and I enjoyed the traditional namaste which we were greeted with. The food was very very good especially the Indian food. The pastry shop was excellent. We enjoyed 2 lovely evenings also at Smooth the bar. I tried the spa once which was truly a relaxing experience.I would really say this small boutique hotel knows the business of service and quality very well. This hotel is surely on my list on my next visit to this lovely city.

Spent 3 nights at the Shalimar in early December 2012 at the end of a 3 week trip to India. Arrived early by train and our room was made available early which was most welcome.
We had one of the Lifestyle suites which was excellent with loads of room, excellent bathroom, comfortable bed. Gulmurg restaurant good for breakfast with excellent choice and we ate there twice for dinner.

The last night meal before heading for the airport was a little disappointing as we ordered a Goan fish curry (poor as it contained virtually no fish) with a rice dish, but were not told that the meal came with rice anyway - a waste, made worse by the fact that the staff kept trying to serve us more rice when we didn't want or need anymore. Breakfast service was also poor on our last morning as the waiter (one of the older ones) failed to bring our tea/coffee despite being asked several times. The younger waiters by contrast were very efficient and always served with a smile, something their older colleagues could learn from.

For the most part however the staff were very friendly and helpful especially at the front desk. I had a massage before departing for the airport on our last day - a great way to get a shower after you have checked out in the monring by the way before a long night of travelling! Massge was excellent.

Would use this hotel again if I come back to Mumbai as it is in a good location, not walking distance from Marine drive etc but it's only 100RS max in a taxi.

Our only complaint was the AC was set way too high in the public areas especially the restaurant. The staff did turn it off when we shivered on our last night - thanks. But it is SO unhealthy to have AC set at 18-19 degrees.

Room Tip: Get a lifestyle room. They are so comfortable.

Located centrally. Near most of the business establishments in South Mumbai.Nice rooms. Good service.Since I was driving my own car I was happy about the parking. The cake shop is excellent. There is a full variety available. You can select between different types of bread cakes sandwiches.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main road are good. The suit we stayed in was excellent

I visited this hotel with family and it was chosen because of its great location. I was extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the rooms. After a long day we checked in late afternoon to find what looked like a pleasant enough room but on closer insection there were ants all over the desk and mirror and toilet.A lot of dust was present also. I asked housekeeping to come and clean the room whilst we went out, we were assured the room would be properly cleaned but when we returned the ants were still there. The manager then moved us to another room ( after showing me two rooms which were not nice at all) and a few days later we noticed ants in this room. I could not be bothered to say anything again to the manager knowing that we would not be returning to this hotel again.

Dear MR101_12

Thank you for the time that you have taken in putting up a review of your stay with us.

We value guest feedback and whether positive or negative, they are taken in the right spirit and acted upon, where necessary. A negative feedback is also given as much attention as a positive one, by the management at the highest echelon.

We do have a strict pest control system in place, which does ensure that we are a pest free hotel. Pest Control (India) Private Limited, who services our hotel is a company which has more than 50 years of experience in this field and is servicing most of the top hotels and chains in the country.

We will not dispute a guest complaint, just for the sake of protecting our image and portraying the guest in poor light. However, as part of our efforts to offer services of the highest order, we make it a point to try and meet every guest. Further, a guest who may have possibly faced any form of inconvenience on two separate occasions, as mentioned by, especially something as serious as this and warrants a mention on Trip Advisor, would definitely have been met by a senior manager. In fact, I am given to understand that our Executive Housekeeper had met you and personally looked into your room move. In addition, she also ensured that one of her Supervisors checked with you every day, until your departure. To our knowledge you were very satisfied with your room change. As much as we value guest opinion, we value guest satisfaction and the image of our hotel.

We definitely look forward to welcoming you again at The Shalimar Hotel and we assure you that we are a hotel that provides service which is truly exemplary.

The hotel is in a good location with some shops and tourist sites near by. In the hotel is a nice restaurant, a bar and a bakery. The rooms are nothing fancy and could use some updating. The staff were all very nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Try for a street view and not the back alley

Stayed in the hotel for almost three weeks mid-October through 1st week of November I had 2 rooms. I stayed here on a recommendation of a family friend. The room was the most important thing to me. And the rooms there had hard wood floors, flat screen tv, sitting area, coffee maker, mini-fridge, A/C, great bathroom!. The restaurant in the hotel is called Gulmurg and has a great breakfast buffet and has great food including my favorite indian/Chinese food!! The staff is really attentive and is there to help with anything, including getting medication delivered to my room without any hassles, they also arranged drivers and looked up information that I needed. I gave it 5 stars because it is a great hotel and in a very unique part of town and is central to all of Mumbai.

I start this review by stating this is the only time I have visited Mumbai and so I have nothing to compare the Shalimar with in terms of other Mumbai Hotels.

I received a very efficient and friendly service from reservations staff before the visit, and they helped me with booking airport transfers which was really helpful.

The hotel itself looks like it has had a recent facelift. The reception area and the rooms are clean and modern, the bathrooms were very nice, and the bed was very comfortable.

We had a slight issue when we arrived in that the toilet in our room hadn't been cleaned thoroughly, but we called reception and this was dealt with immediately.

The service in the restaurant was a bit haphazard, and the breakfast wasn't really to our taste, but you can't have everything.

There was also a bit of tip-chasing from one staff member when we needed the business centre opening up for us, which was rather awkward. We understand the tip culture and paid at the appropriate times along the way, but didn't think we should tip just to have the business centre door unlocked...

The reception staff were friendly and helpful throughout, the room was cool and clean, and the location is good, so overall, this is decent option for a short Mumbai stay, in my limited experience.
