After a 29 year absence from my birth place, I returned just before Xmas with my daughters. We travelled round different parts of India, using Mumbai as a base. So, we stayed at this hotel twice - for 3 days just before Xmas and then again earlier this month.
It is an excellent hotel and I recommend it without reservation.
It is very clean, rooms are large and airy, with good TV facilities with a range of English language channels. There is complimentary water every day, if your room is cleaned, with free coffee and tea making facilities, again replenished daily. The showers work well and again complimentary items such shampoo, lotion, talc powder, soap etc. The above lists of items were not standard in other hotels. Fans and air con work.
The breakfasts are amazing! A chef cooks your masala dhosa and omelette in a corner for you, there are 3 different types of fresh fruits and 2 different types of fresh fruit juice. There is a large selection of teas from green to masala to make yourself, but we preferred the ready made delicious masala chai in an urn. Lots of different South Indian specialities but also cereal and croissants/ Danish pastries for those wanting a more western breakfast, with toast as well. We didn't need lunch after these feasts!
The hotel is tastefully decorated with pictures of Mumbai in earlier decades.
The big selling point was the lovely lounge area, with citronella burning in the corner, comfortable sofas and, free wifi in this area with 2 laptops free of charge for use. The internet connection was much better here than elsewhere in India and also Mumbai .
The stAff were just brilliant, so welcoming and attentive from the managers, receptionists to the security guards and cleaning staff.
It is a brilliant location, so central and within easy reach of Colaba, but without the ' Colaba Premium' - for those who don't know what this is, everything is more expensive in Colaba from the eating establishments to the cobblers! All because it's near the Gateway of India.
There are some brilliant very cheap veggie eating places a few blocks near this hotel, which I'll be also reviewing and it's a short walk to Marine Drive, which is a lovely walk especially at sunset.
This is an underrated hotel and only one of 2, which I would give 5 stars from the many we stayed in India. We will be back!

Stayed at Astoria Mumbai whilst attending conference in Mumbai
We had several choices and since this was the cheapest option provided by the organisers, the whole Malaysian delegation was placed here.
The room design seems to be influence by Japanese style design and art pieces. Not sure if previous owner was Japanese.
For the price paid, we could have gotten better hotels in Malaysia. However, it was acceptable. The staff were friendly.
Free wifi in lobby.
Many choices for breakfast.
I got a corner room, had to share with another Malaysian delegate, so thankfully corner rooms were more spacious.
Location is convenient to shopping areas, and also to Mumbai University where the summit opening ceremony was held.

Room Tip: Request corner rooms, its bigger. Also choose rooms facing the back to avoid road noise.

When in south mumbai a value for money with star aminities than Astoria is a good hotel which give value for money
It is very eay to move around with a couple of minute walk to the marine drive, charuch gate and the VT(CST) railway station
The hotel was a restaurtant with the basic taste and standards
Rooms are bit small but is comfortable.
All in all a stay for a short while is worth the value of it

We had a great stay in hotel Astoria. The staff was very helpful and diligent. Always happy to answer questions or provide services. The location is very good: near the sea, near churchgate station with the trains going north, walking distance to the beautiful fort area.

It is an old hotel and exudes an old world charm. Many parts have been refurbished and look very modern, but the old lift and the narrow stairs are straight from the fifties or sixties when it was still in good old Bombay.
The hotel staff are warm and thoroughly professional. The restaurant is very good and their buffet breakfast is commendable.
The refurbished rooms are large and airy with equally large bathrooms. Ask for these rooms specifically, because as I understand all rooms have not been so changed.
The real advantage of this hotel is its location. Just a stones throw from Churchgate station and short walk to Marine drive. This sheer advantage makes this hotel a real bargain in Mumbai.

A good hotel. No surprises and a very large room. Excellent location, right by Oval Maiden, where you can watch the locals play cricket from sunrise to sunset. It is close to India Gate and Colaba. You must visit Sassoon Docks too. I would stay here again.

The location of the hotel is perfect its in the middle of Mumbai near Church-gate station exactly opposite to Eros Cinema(Theater). For cricket lovers this hotel is very convenient because the home of the greatest batsman Sachin Tendulkar (The Wankhede Cricket Stadium) is just a few minutes walking distance from the hotel. The staffs at the hotel are very friendly and cooperative. The rooms are spacious and clean, bathroom is clean as well. Definitely will return for another stay.

Room Tip: Savoy Suite is very spacious good for friends/family.
